a tough choice and an interesting test

So for the next year I have chosen to avoid buying any games. For one year i will spend not a penny on a game or any other extras. I want to see if i can stay sane as a gamer without any new games. Not only that, I want to see if i can try and say something interesting when ive nothing new to say something interesting about.

not that people read this...lol

I hope that this gives me more time to play all the games ive managed to collect this last few years. Maybe actually finish some i should have long ago.

There is a small couple of times i can spend money though. 1. now. the money i currently have is from last year. I cant spend any money i get this year on any games.

2. feb. Its when i get last years christmas bonus. Its my 1 chance for a big selfish spend . after that no games for me.

welcome to level 3 get ready!

And so the twenteens begin.

The last decade was really too good for me. dreamcast through ps2, xbox, gamecube and to the 360 and wii revolution, Its never been such an exciting and brilliant time for us gamers. Some of , if not all of the best games of all time were released over the last decade. And not only that but the industry saw leaps not only in quality and creativity unlike those seen in any other time. even compared to other industrys.

Beyond good and evil, skies of arcadia, metal gear solid 3, resident evil 4, final fantasy 12, halo, street fighter 4, left 4 dead, little big planet, psyconauts, fable 2, half life 2, portal, katamari, no more heroes, devil may cry 3, burnout paradise, super smash brothers brawl, wario ware and so many many more.

Just attempting to think of all the great games we gamers got over the last ten years in enough to melt the brain into a pool of delighted mush.

Yet with the new decade there comes a worry. After such a long and productive time for the industry and with the world still on unstable ground financially theres less and less chance of such creative and experimental ground. I would even expect less games to be put into production over the next few years when compared to this time last decade. Not only this but theres a longer home life for the current generation of games consoles. This means less console development and less chances of creative leaps in the games themselves. Thankfully natal and pswii (that ps3 wand thing) will provide a little insperation for our future games, But the wii has already become stale, and these new enhancements to our current geniration of consoles are olny going to provide short term boosts to our consoles lives. Soon they will become just another boring add on, or worse another ubisoft fitness dressup petcare simulator.

shudder*

So onto the first month of the first year of the twenteens, and what upcoming games are you all most looking forward to and what ideas do you have for the future of games?? what would you like to see?

and so the end

last of 2009 huh.

I dont really get the point of new years... i mean i know what new years is and all. Its a day off from the work i do for a big greedy multi national corpiration, which is nice. But I was sleepy at 9pm. mostly due to being up at 3am. But it didnt motivate me to stay up at all new years.

I dont really know much about making resilutions. But i do have a few plans.

1. To re train myself my art skills. For so long they have been lacking and I should have progressed much further then i have.

2. To properly manage my live stream channels and shops. I have 3 of the former and 2 of the latter.

3. to form a group to help others like me develop and grow artisticly and creatively.

4. to read a book each week.
lol.

theres more , but you get the idea. Not really self improvement but actually following things through.

first off though. finish my website.

we're the kids in america

So i signed up to xbox live using an us hotmail email account and an american address and phone number. (for those of you who dont know in from england) And boy, do you american live users get so much more. Your inside xbox stuff isnt much improved. But you have more arcade games, more features.

Zune is the big shocker. We have about 500 movies.... and thats it. we do have the guild and red vs blue , things like that available, But microsoft uk/eu has not actually managed to even intergrate it into the zune features, so while in zune you scroll up to internet vids and its empty .

Why have something there if its just empty.!!!

But you guys, you get more tv shows then i could ever try to count. So many classics, even shows from the uk via bbc world.

We dont get them, but you guys do.

Why? What would it hurt for microsoft to actually make the uk service work as well and with as many features??

I dare a u.s. gamespot user to sign up to hotmail with a uk postal address and number and compare what you get with what we get.... trust me , its awful. At least you'll be glad to be american.

so games podcasts and things

After playing about with a few things and plotting stuff for a while i am hoping to start making podcasts. But im mostly by myself.

Im just hoping that theres a few people out there who may be interested in helping me out with the testing stages of my podcast . If there are people interested in making or assisting tin the making of a podcast on videogames, from anywhere in the world, let me know here.

Ill let any of you who watch me still know exactly whats going on here soon. ;)

so my feedback for the string of upcoming xbox live features

zune marketplace: Its a shame that things that we are told that are free to download on the service via this site (the guild) are not actually available on zune marketplace. I assume thats because its the uk market. but as I was able to download these items before and now cannot locat them its a worry that ill not be able to download the episodes of red vs blue ive paid for (for example) in future.

Also I am an non hd user. Ive not got the tv for it. But when i chose to buy and stream an sd movie I noted a lot of quality issues at the start , even for sd, also the movie kept freesing during and stopped completely a couople of times. this wouldnt be so bad but when i chose to resume i was instead taken to the start of the movie again. This ment spending a good while skipping through hoping i'd get to the part where i was left off without too much trouble.

It would be good to see some of the independent shows like the guild avilable now to test, just to re assure that these are available to view for all in future. also a quick launch button for party viewing would be a good idea. I had to fumble about to get myself in the little avitar party room and then could only do it with sky tv player and not zune.

twitter. Sparce, i understand that its not quite as ready as some other aspects of the live features , but its too thin even for twitter.

Some twitpic intergration might be good. And just make it so that the #xboxtweet thing we should add just is part of an xbox tweet anyway.

facebook. quite good , but still a little patchy. Also i do have a friend who happens to be also on facebook , but he's not popping up in the add xbox live friends to facebook bit. Worry a bit there. Aslo user video use would be a good option. And for both facebook and twitter , being able to post scores, achevements and screenshots would also be cool.

Maybe also having an app that records what your playing and allows you to watch it back on your xbox or post the video to facebook would be funky.

last.fm . Im actually very plesently suprised with this , its working well and is very well implimented. Its a shame that one problem lets it down big time.

I dont want to choose , for example , reel big fish radio , just to hear a load of songs by other aritsts instead before i get to hear reel big fish. Especially if some of those bands are ones i might not like already. Its a trilebeing made to listen to bands you dont want to. Now dont get me wrong, i like the idea of turning on a last.fm radio station and listning to just some random bands , some i know some i dont. BUT. I would like the option of JUST listning to one band also available. if i choose beatles radio, then i just want beatles. and not the rolling stones. Maybe an option to have a mix of bands or just the specific band playing would be good.

Halo waypoint. Not too many issues here. Im liking the features, but really its something that needs really good long term investment for it to work. Not something like halo waypoint that is not for a game but a game company... sega / capcom / so on. would be cool. Covering whatever games are coming out, adding a range of features and unlockables. I think waypoint is a great idea, and it'll work for halo as theres a whole lot of content knocking about for it even now. but it might leave non halo fans left a little in the cold.

Im still quite excited about Having these features in my xbox. all i need is to get joyride before the end of the year and im completely happy. But really the new features really need to be perfected or people wont see a point or use them.

just thought i'd share

i just found out ive been selected to take part in the tester stage for all the new xbox live features. zune , twitter, facebook and last fm.

Last fm is whats most interesting to me, but all should be fun to play about with.

Im sure theres a couple of other people probably soing this too, hi to you. for those not, ill share any experiances i have during this time, just to give you all a heads up.
