Yes, when I heard about it I was a little disappointed too. Why would Blizzard do this to us? Why would they make us pay all this money and make us wait years to play the Zerg and Protoss Campaigns? Fear not fellow Gamespotters, I have seen the light and I would like to reveal my discoveries to you all.
Why its a good thing:
- We get to see Starcraft 2 much sooner in the forms of Wing of Liberty rather than waiting years for Blizzard to complete all the race's campaigns
- Blizzard can fully explore each campaign, making each one lengthy and well thought out rather than feeling short and confined
- With more time for each product, Blizzard will have time to make massive campaigns which would improve character developement as well as much more story content to enrich the Starcraft Universe
- Multiplayer updates will continue to evolve the multiplayer as would a normal expansion pack, giving Blizzard two additional products to really nail down the multiplayer
- What we were expecting before this announcement was Starcraft 2 followed by an expansion pack or two. With this news, people are upset about the monetary reasons behind this decision. If you think about it, Blizzard will benefit from this move but not as much as people would think considering they were going to be releasing expansion packs anyway. If anything us the consumers are benefiting from the fact that Blizzard will be releasing more content.
Overall, I think most people when they purchase the first Starcraft 2 package will realize that the campaign is extremely compelling with all the improvements being made and that it was a smart move by Blizzard to do this, making them want to buy the next games of the trilogy. If you buy the first game for the multiplayer, then hopefully the next games will offer enough multiplayer content as an expansion would to make you want to upgrade. The only problem I can really see with this is the fact that there would be a sort of dichotomy between the fanbase if the players were all playing different versions. This happens with many games though so I don't expect it to be a huge problem if Blizzard gives the players good enough reason to switch to the newest editions.
Despite my first negative reactions to this trilogy, I am really starting to warm up to the idea.
Your Thoughts?
[QUOTE="cobrax75"]I heard Blizzard was planning it to be $40 for each one....
But apparently, its only because each one is massive in size....they said like 40-60 missions for each one.
JnWycliffe
when i read the top part ($40), i first thought, "$120-30 for the whole thing? crazy!!!!' then, when i read that it'll be 40-60 missions each, i thought, "i wants it!!!!!"
****, i'll pay $200 for all three.
I think they will give us enough content to warrant whatever price the games will be offered for.
[QUOTE="crazymaghie123"][QUOTE="Lach0121"][QUOTE="nevereathim"][QUOTE="Lach0121"]lmao to think blizzard was making enough money off of WOW, and diablo3, (not to mention now that it is actually Activision-Blizzard, with all the money they are bringing to the table)
blizzard is far from hurting on money.. so why do they pull this????
Lach0121
The pull this not for money, but because they want to release the game sooner....basically if they don't release it as episodes, we are gonna have to wait a LONG time for starcraft 2
ummmm then they should of started work on it sooner... they had the better part of a decade easily to do it.no excuse.. and if you think its not for money... then i feel for you.. its business..
if its not for money... then see SC- ep1 as 20 dolllars, and the following 2 episodes 20 dollars each.. if they are more, than it is for the money.....
Their RTS team hasn't just been sitting around. They started work on Starcraft 2 immediatly after Warcraft 3. The project is just extremely ambitious.
we will just have to wait and see what path this ambition will lead them down... now dont we :PYep. Only time will tell.
They're expansion packs. Like Brood War. You will need to buy them all if you want the latest online experience and the latest patch. Not to mention if you decide to get the Protoss pack only you will probably have to wait two years longer then everyone else to play Starcraft 2.Locke562
Thats not confirmed yet but I wouldn't be surprised if that happened either.
