@p3rrypm: The BD Player was better, not because of the content it allowed you to play, but because the discs allowed much more storage for games. However just cause the PS3 had a BD Player didn't mean it was the better option.
I find it funny Xbox fan boys saying you're better off getting an Xbox One S because the Pro doesn’t support 4K Blu-ray discs. If i'm buying a games console then the primary function it's going to be used for is gaming. It'd be nice for it to support 4K Blu-ray discs but certainly not a necessity for a games console. In terms of performance, the PS4 Pro is 3 times more powerful than the one S for only £100 more. This additional power should benefit VR immensely and when new games come out that are built with the PS4 Pro in mind you should see a much bigger difference compared to an old game that has been patched.
@sellingthings: The AMD 480 uses 164w on average alone according to an article on Toms Hardware, that alone is more than the power consumption of a PS4 Pro. Also an i5 and motherboard will use a lot more than 30 or 40 watts when gaming. Power consumption has to be considered when comparing real world costs and a gaming PC typically consumes about 3 times the power.
@Bryjoered07: I agree it's not worth upgrading at the moment if you already own a current gen console. However if you are interested in VR it may be worth it. Once developers make games with the PS4 Pro in mind then it should be worth the upgrade as the performance increase should be much more noticeable. Developers aren't going to waste much time upgrading their old games.
With the Playstation 4 you don't have to upgrade to the Pro as all the games will run on both consoles anyway, but if you have got a 4k TV then it is nice to have the option to do so anyway. Many people also prefer the console experience, or the exclusives they offer, I get your point couch gaming is easier, but that's not all console offers, for one it's cheaper, that's not saying I can't afford a high end gaming rig, I can, but i'd rather my money go else where such as fast cars :)
@noshotskill: May I suggest you look at a dictionary to see what outdated means. It's based on AMD's new Polaris microarchitecture, it's certainly not outdated.
Devolpers aren't going to spend lot's of time making old games look much better, that's a waste of time for them. The real benefits will come from when developers build games with the PS4 Pro in mind.
@sellingthings: The AMD 480 isn't mid-range, it's got 8GB or RAM and costs £250, that's not mid range. You can't compare the cost of hardware vs the cost of hardware and services. I get your point in terms of real world cost, but if you are going to go on about that then I could say what about power consumption, a gaming PC cost's a lot more to run than a console, probably more than what is cost for PSN each year.
@olddadgamer: I think the fan noise is a problem with your PS4. I have two at home and they are quite, under load you can hear it, but it's not that loud, nothing compared to what the 360 was like.
@sellingthings: I would hardly call it low end! In relative terms to other consoles it's very much high end. In comparison to a PC it's mid range, but consoles have the advantage of hardware optimisation to improve their performance. Correct it can't change at that price point, but performance for that price can't be beat.
