Yes, those guides are a total scam.
As for a career in game testing, you are typically playing the game in alpha through delta builds. You aren't playing to see if it's fun, you're playing to try and break it. They get focus testers for that, which doesn't last very long. Or you could work at a company that tests software/hardware. Typically for this you would be doing focus/certification testing, very rarely do game developers hire external QA testers. For any non-focus testing, you'd be required to write up a detailed bug report for every issue you find, and be expected to understand error messages and debug print-outs.
This isn't a dig at Solaris, it's a fantastic film, but Tarkovsky was notorious for long takes and slow shots. To me, his pacing helps me think about the actions and words of the characters in the context of the movie and also in my frame of reference. And also to study his shots.
I must admit, I'm becoming a fan of long takes. Especially what I saw in Children of Men. A_Tarkovsky, any suggestions? PM me if you got any.
[QUOTE="leonard88"][QUOTE="socked_feet"]Uhh Napoleon Dynamite. When that first came out, everyone I know wouldn't shut up about it, and it was pretty bad. Watching it was a waste of my life.A_Tarkovsky
totally it was so lame
I found it funny.There, I said it. Now watch my film-snob credibility go down the drain.
That movie is just really divisive with me. If I'm in the right mood, I'll think it's hilarious. If I've previously watched it within 3 months or so of the second viewing, or am just not in a good mood, it becomes a chore.
[QUOTE="A_Tarkovsky"]Audition.
Amazing movie, but the way it shifts its tone over time before building to that bizarre climax creeps me out. Miike's one ****ed up SOB.
Berzz
Pretty much everything by Miike is disturbing.
He did do that Django remake recently...there wasn't anything really 'gory' disturbing, but the scene where the kid watches his parents die is twisted beyond belief.
Cannibal Holocaust, for those who don't know, is a film that got a lot of controversy for killing real, live animals on film. The director was going to be arrested for the murder of the actors until he brought them on a talk show to prove they were alive. The people who laud it say it's a scathing social commentary, but it's really just an animal snuff film with a very blunt attempt at having a moral.
Edit: To reinforce the point, don't watch the movie. I felt like a prick after it was over.
