[QUOTE="MrPenguinKing"]Intestine Baalism. Too much ownage.SimpJee

Nice, word.

Spawn of Possession (people have heard of them before, but I doubt many here have!)

One of my favorites.  Ditto Intestine Baalism.  Scar Symmetry is a Soilwork clone.  As for my band?

Aghora - probably heard of it, proggy thing with Sean Reinert and Sean Malone
The Deserts of Traun - weird storybook metal
Staurophobia - my friend's black metal band, they're getting more local shows, increased the length of their only song to 35 minutes.

I believe that God is a figment of my imagination, an invisible friend, who I never actually interact with.  He's just there, along with Loki, Hepheastus, Ishtar, etc.  They are interpretations of storybook characters in the universe that is me.

I have listened extensively to both Tool and Opeth.  I have all of their CD's.  Neither of them are all that amazing, but if you take both to a music theory major, they will tell you that Tool is much more musically interesting.  The way they screw around with meter and key is much more appealing than repeating phrases six times before moving on to a new one (this is not an attack on Opeth's skill.  Ghosts of Perdition is quite possibly one of the best songs they've done, and not subject to their usual treatment).  The thing with Tool is, most people pass it off as contrived, I used to myself, but they really aren't.  Personally, I don't give a damn about either of them anymore (well, sometimes I listen to The Pot), I've been listening to Aghora and Gordian Knot lately.  Much more interesting stuff.

How would you know? You do neither and testing isn't conclusive enough for proof. Give me a credible source... you can't. Sit down, and don't talk about things you don't know. You are what they want you to be and you don't even know it... Formulate your own opinion rather than citing lines from a d.a.r.e. pamphlet.

Nothing is conclusive, but out of everything I've read, weed seems to have more of a hasrh impact on the lungs. One joint is supposed to equal 3 -7 cigarettes. Guess it depends how strong the bud is. I smoke high quality(crystalized,no seeds) and when cleaning my bowl I have noticed alot of tar. Then again, I quit cigarettes.

Bud alone actually has three times less tar than cigarettes.  Seeds and stems have 4 times as much, which is where that myth started.  And it's not tar in your bowl, it's resin.  THC crystals.  More tar than bud, but it's about halfway between bud and weak hash in terms of high.  The statistic is from erowid.org.

I know what tar and resin look like. this was wet, black tar I found after disassembling my pipe. What about the good bud with soft stems and basically seedless?

Are you absolutely positive it was tar?  I've seen some very wet, black resin before.  The three times less rule applies to all bud not treated with pesticides.  I still try to avoid stems, though.  Heck, the reason most cigarette smokers get cancer is due to the government-required soil that tobacco growers have to use, whereas most pot is taken care of by hand.

[QUOTE="crucifine"][QUOTE="Trashface"]

Mike Patton- Crazy range of styles and languages

Chris Cornell- Alot of soul, range and ability

Mikeal Akerfedlt- Vocals ranging from melodic folk to death. He also plays incredibly complex guitar lines while singing.

I don't get why so many people get hung up on Maynard. He has no range and his flows repeat constantly. I heard the new Tool and either they've replaced him with a worse singer or he has gotten worse. Maybe people love the lyrical content but as a vocalist, he isn't very special.

Trashface

Probably the same reason I don't get why people get hung up on Mikael Akerfeldt. His guitar lines ain't all that complex, it's just a matter of tuning the guitar correctly. The thing with Keenan is that his voice is very hard to replicate, and their music is complicated as all heck, so there aren't nearly as many Tool cover bands as there are Opeth or Alice In Chains, etc.

Tool has good basslines and drumming but like the vocals, the song formula repeats and repeates. Slow build to a climax. Opeth's vocals and songwriting are way beyond Tool's.

Whether or not the formula repeats is debatable, but Tool's songwriting is definitely beyond Opeth's.  None of it is written in the studio, it's composed beforehand, rather than jotted down in the studio.  From a strictly music theory point of view, Tool's music is far more complicated.  I guess I'll give you Mikael Akerfeldt's voice, although I ain't a big fan of it.

Van Halen  -from Wikpedia. They had more than "a couple good songs"

From 1978 to 1998 the band released 11 studio albums (all of which broke the Top 20 spot of the Billboard 200 music charts. The band has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide and has received several Grammy nominations. Van Halen is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records with the most number one hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock List. According to the Recording Industry Association of America Van Halen is #19 on the list of Top Selling Artists of all time (having sold more than 56 million albums in the U.S.). Van Halen is one of five rock groups that have had two albums (not including Greatest Hits albums) (the self titled debut and 1984) sell more than 10 million copies in the U.S. (the others being: Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Def Leppard).

Deltaforce-
I wasn't talking about what the public thinks, I was talking about what I think.  And I think they had a couple good songs, even if they broke 40 sales records or not.  I hold pretty much the same opinion as Nissyre 66.

They had a couple good songs, but I wouldn't pay money for their records or shows.  And there are zillions better solos than eruption, anyways.
