You'll be fine using a card with GDDR3 memory. There's twice as much memory on the GDDR2 card, so it'll be using more power, anyway (mind you, it can't actually use 512MB of memory).

Where are you getting that it'll cost you $145 for a $70 card and $40 power supply?

EDIT: Wait, you're using your computer on your TV? You do realise that 720P isn't the resolution you should be using, but 1366x768?

Anyway, if you understand that you won't be able to play most newer games at High settings, get a 2600XT. It's $35 and it performs a bit better than the 8600GT, anyway.

2600XT:

Antec Basiq 500W:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371019

TOTAL = $81.97

kodex1717

Thats abit better ^_^

But what do you mean by "newer games"...and how is this better than the 8600gt,but half the price?(Just alittle bit curious)

and i dont understand what your saying about the resolution.

edit:my bad

So the reason i wanted to buy form tigerdirect was that newegg didnt have this model.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3433250&CatId=1826

And if i did my research right,DDR2 memory is known to be slower, but takes less energy. The minimum watt is 300 so that was why i wanted this card. So i didn't need to buy a new psu -_-..

The PSU you linked, while being a complete piece of crap, is a standard ATX PSU. I'd suggest getting the Antec Basiq 500W from Newegg, as it's really the cheapest quality PSU around. Also, what resolution do you play at?

EDIT: I didn't see the PSU BlackKat linked. While Thermaltake's low-end power supplies aren't exactly known for their quality, it should be fine running a cheap card. Nevertheless, I'd still like to know what resolution you play at?

kodex1717

1280X720

a small flat panal monitor..

Ok, i did the math agian -_-

and it'll cost me RIGHT NOW around 145$ to get the power supply and video card..i dont have that money right now to spend..

And the rebates take 8-10 weeks, and if you want them faster you have to pay for it (-_-)

Ok,now i'm in a pickle..I need to buy some stuff for back to school...

Ok, now im officialy confused...

Surprise

http://www.cputopia.com/emachine-480w-t-series-t5224.html

So supposivly this is a replacement...And it says its 480 watts.....

Ok..i dont know if the reviews wrong, or this is an upgrade psu...

I'd rather jsut get this, if i canO_O

WDT-BlackKat

EVGA reccommends 22A on the 12V rail on the PSU for an 8600GT. So I'm looking at the one I linked, and you can see on the 12V rail(s) 14A and 15A which = 29 (they don't have to be on the same rail and add up although the debate it still out on whether one big 12V rail is better than multiple smaller ones)

The PSU you linked, besides being an Emachine deathtrap, has ... 16A. Hardly sufficient. It's also not PCI-E compliant.

Wow...Thanks

I'll go with your recomendations! With the rebate and all, it'll proabbly cost me 70 bucks. Not to shabby.

PSU's typically conform to the ATX case standard, as do motherboards. Where they differ is that many cheaper PSUs do not have the proper power connections for high end, modern video cards. Also many of the evil megacorp PC makers like Dell, Compaq, etc. use, or have used in the recent past, non industry standard motherboards and PSUs such that one is compelled to order directly from said corporation for upgrade parts at outlandish prices because the standardized parts won't fit their cases.

Before ordering a PSU just make sure your computer case is a standardized ATX case such that what you order will fit properly inside.

WDT-BlackKat

And how would i make sure the case is an ATX?

Thanks for all your help..I found that what you found was actually much cheaper -_-

[QUOTE="da2730da"]

Just a question.

What game will not work on 8600, but will on a 8800?(Highest settings)

Also, im asking about the psu alot because in a review about my compiuter, it said anything better than the integrated chip will have an impact on my computer(psu wise)..So i want to know what that means..

WDT-BlackKat

It's not so much about whether a given game will work or not work. All games will work on an 8600, they just will work a lot better on an 8800. You'll get be able to scale up all the visual effects and resolution with th 8800 without having to sacrifice frame rate such that the game looks like a slide show.

But the PSU is a no-brainer. 300 watts is a suicide PSU. Regardless if you opt for the cheaper 8600 or go with an 8800 you need a new PSU. For what you're doing you don't need the sort of PSU I'd get ($100+ 650+ watts). But a fairly cheap, but non-generic PSU such as the one Kodex linked.

It's like toilet paper. You can get the cheap, rough stuff, but you're sure to get hemroids that way. Why not just get the Charmin?

^-_- but i already have the cheap rough stuff, so should'nt i just use it anyways?

Ok..so i'll get the 8600gt, and a good psu..

One question you didnt awsner is does every psu work with evrey comptuter?Like is every psu the same?

And heres the things im plannign to get..Im getting them from tigers direct, so if your going to show me something, pelase link it to tiger ^_^
