Just a question.

What game will not work on 8600, but will on a 8800?(Highest settings)

Also, im asking about the psu alot because in a review about my compiuter, it said anything better than the integrated chip will have an impact on my computer(psu wise)..So i want to know what that means..

sigh..

I thought upgrading my video card would be easy..

Ok, so whats the majoir difference between a 8600 and a 8800?Will it make that much of a difference? The thing is, im on a tight budget...so i thought maybe i can just buy a video card and get away with all the other stuff.Guess not.

I'll proabbly save up and buy when i have more money -_-...

see if this will work^

And note, im not much of a pc gamer. I like to just have a computer that can play some games, not as a main console but for some games that are better off on the pc.I'll proabbly play tf2,cs, and starcraft 2. Thats proabbly it..fps and rts are the main reason im trying to make my computer work.

Lack of enough power can create brownout conditions. Fluctuating power dips will lower the lifespan of ALL components in your computer. Cheap power supplies will do this also as they do not provide consistent power levels. Additionally, running power supplies close to their maximum does create added chances of having a catastrophic PSU failure (fire). This is why you always go with as large a buffer zone as you can afford.

The 8600GT can play today's latest games well on medium settings. Tomorrow's games might only run on low, or they might be no more advanced than today's. It's impossible to predict across the board, but Blizzards games tend to be easier on system requirements than other companies (since you asked specifically about Starcraft and Diablo).

WDT-BlackKat

Sigh...let me see if i got this right..

Im going to get this video card

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicaftions/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3433250&sku=E145-8620

And with it, comes with 512 more memory, so i'll have 1.5 gb of ram for my system(is it enough?)

And with it, i'll proabbly buy a power supply...but which one?How can i know which one will work on my system?(And im going for cheap, but durable)..And is it possilbe to use two PSU?(i have no idea , just seeing if it can. Ram works liek that, am i right?)

Thanks to everyone who helped..I would be in a pickle without this board -_-

bump..

And FINAL QUESTION.

If the power supply isnt enough for the video card, will it fry? Will it damage any of parts inside the computer?Because i'm just assuming that if the video card dosen't work, i'll just need to buy antoehr PSU...

Adding on to that^

Will it affect my electric bill in any way?

and possibly final question.

Will this video card be able to run future games like say, starcraft 2, diablo 3,ect?Is it a possibility?

It is definitely your video card.

Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950
Up to 224MB of shared video memory
PCI-Express® (PCI-E x16) slot available

It says up to 244 mb.. what does that mean?

Vista has the ability to share RAM with your video card.

I'm not too fond of power supplies that come in retail computers, but I know they're pretty weak. You could always look into getting a new power supply, although I don't think you'd need one if you were going to run a 8600. People will tell you that you absolutely cannot run a 8600 on a 300W PSU.. But you certainly can. In all honesty though, I'd look for a new power supply to go along with what ever video card you plan on buying. It never hurts to have more power.

The 8600 you posted the link to is fine, and will run the game.

Blicen

But the thing is, whats bad about having low power?

Does it make a huge difference?I mean, will it like blow up my computer? Will the performance of the video card be affected in any way?

And if i need more power, all i need is to buy another power supply, right?

And did you see my specs? Are you sure i wont NEED a power supply?

Im going with your word, so please be right >_

So,i'm trying to get this game to work.
To do that i need
A. A better graphics card
and possibly
B. A better power supply.
So here is my computer.
http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=T5224

I'm planning on getting a 8600gt because its cheap, and can run this game.
So,i think this computer has a 300 watt power supply(which alot of people say its not going to work with any good video card).
So im trying to figure out what video card i should get.
This one says it can run with a 300watt power supply. I mean, i don't really know alot about computers so i need some good advice on this one.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3433250&CatId=1826

I'm planning on just getting this. But who knows? As i said, im not good with computer so if i'm doing something wrong, please help. If this card looks suspicious or you think it won't run this game, please do tell.
And worst case scenario, i just buy another power supply, right?

i have some questions..

does this mean anything? In the specs, beside video, it says this.

Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950
Up to 224MB of shared video memory
PCI-Express® (PCI-E x16) slot available

It says up to 244 mb.. what does that mean?
And about the power supply...
If you have more power, whats difference does it make to the video card?

^that requires 350 watts...

Ok,so i found this graphics card..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290248733682&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:middle:us

For some reason the reccomended power supply is 300 watts, which is pretty low.The minimum is just 250 watts..

The other 8600gt cards atleast(for their minumim) require a 350 watt.

Just curious, why is it that only this card(which should be the same quality as the other 8600gt) need less power?

Should i just get this?If it dosent work, worse case scenario ,i just need to buy a better power supply..Am i right?>_
