I own a ps3 and I am tired of people refering to Killzone 2 or MGS4 as the pinnacle of (console) gaming graphics. Dont take this wrong because I proudly own and enjoy both games ( top 6% in Killzone 2 the first week) but statistically the pinnacle are games such as MLB 09:The Show and others which run at a native 1080p 60fps resolution. So please someone tell me why even though the shooters named boast amazing graphics they are inferior to MLB and others(Wipeout HD, Gran Turismo 5: Prolouge, NBA 09 ) that run at 1080p 60fps and are still used as examples of the best graphical acheivements on a particular system?
Here's a comprehensive list...
Almost everything that is said to be exclusive can be bought for the pc cheaper and with it packing more content
Hardware Failure
I already have the gaming necceseties which are a pc, ps3 and a wii.
Also the Onlive system is looking to replace the xbox alltogether.
I'm playing SF4 with a friend and after 2 matches I run over to grab my mic. I accidentally bump into my desk, which sends my keyboard flying off where it hits my 360 and all I hear is the most horrible of scratching sounds. My disc is dead. All I get is disc unreadable errors.
I can't return this to a store. I can't mail it to Capcom with $20 for a replacement, etc, etc, nothing. If this was just a download, #1, the impact wouldn't have broken anything and #2, even if the impact corrupted the file, I could just download it again.
Now I have a $60 paperweight. And a boring paperweight at that. I can't even shake it up and watch the snow fall.
Digital distribution needs to get here as quickly as possible. My only hope is to sign up with Gamefly and do something incredibly bogus. It's sad that doing this or shelling out $60 all over again are my only options.
Did you know? The PS3's blu-ray has a scratch resistant coating.[QUOTE="teemany"][QUOTE="Shattered007"]I just want someone to give me the reason blu-ray is needed. So far there is yet to be a mutiplat that is mutiple disc on the 360 and for many exclusives on the PS3 more then 2 thirds require manditory installs despite the size capablitiy. The only good thing about Blu-Ray so far is the fact that I can watch HD movies on it (which has nothing to do with gaming).Shattered007Blu-ray isn't need, but PS3 exclusives can be made bigger and better because of it. Again, Blu-ray does allow more space for developers to use space-consuming audio-visual assets. To say Blu-ray isn't an advantage is like saying a bigger house is the same as a smaller house. To some, space doesn't matter. To most it does. there is 2 things that come up though. 1. With games like MGS4 already going into dual layer Blu-Ray Discs and not containing much actual game play it would stand to reason that there's no evident of that happening. Plus, one of the main games that could help your statement carry weight is FF13 which is now a mutiplat. 2 Yes blu-ray has advantages, those of which are almost shadowed buy the disadvantages found within the PS3s drive. Having to install big game files (that's in sheer size tends to be 2 thirds that of its 360s counterpart) and slow read speeds. To elaborate on your metaphor, it's like saying: It's like having a bigger house that you use mostly to store stuff in and you have a small doors so most of your stuff doesn't fit so you have to use the garage instead. Also, you have 2 pay twice the mortgage. The big installs are results of either bad, lax, or unknowledgable programing just look at Killzone2 or Uncharted which have no installs.
Any gaming experience on the 360 can pretty much be experienced on the PS3--shooters, fighters, RPGs, or any other genres. However some experiences can only achieved with the PS3.
BLU-RAY: To date, I have yet to see Xbox 360 offer the type of experiences like MGS4 or Killzone 2. MGS4 uses Blu-ray's disk space for the most awesome presentation of story ever. The amount of space needed for its cutscenes and uncompressed audio simply cannot be done on the 360. Killone 2 offers the most impressive graphics technologies currently available on home consoles. Killzone 2 uses over (40?, 25?) gigs of diskspace. Total DVD space for Xbox 360 is only 8.5 gigs!
To those who still question the advantages of Blu-ray, answer me this: Xbox 360 came to market easier to develop for as well as a one-year head start. Why then does the 360 lack any game that can match the PS3's MGS4 and Killzone 2 in terms of the quantity and quality of sights and sounds? Gears 2 might be comparable to MGS4 in over all graphics, but MGS4 wins in MORE contents (space consuming but amazing cutscenes) and more uncompressed sounds (I am not sure if Gears 2 uses uncompressed sounds). Killzone 2, well, it is pretty much the accepted console graphics king if we go by current reviews.
Cell: This is what allows PS3 games to have more stuff on the screen at the same time--number of players, explosions, vehicles, gusts of winds, blades of grass, etc. while offering HD quality graphics. Because the 360 lacks the Cell processor, it is my belief that it cannot offer the type of games found on the PS3--games with Resistance 2's graphics and 60 players online or Killzone's graphics with 32 players online. If you still doubt the cell processor's advantages, then answer me this:
Xbox 360 came to market easier to develop for as well as a one-year head start. Why then that good looking games on the 360 do not have as many things on screen as those on the PS3? Before you say having lots of things on screen doesn't matter, try playing Killzone 2 and see how everything comes together to create the most atmospheric wartime environments ever.
Sixaxis: Many people have said that Sixaxis is a gimmick. Their ancestors probably said the same thing about chopticks when they first came out. Motion control is relatively new in console gaming. Have you used Killzone 2's sniper rifle? Best yet, have you played Flower? I encourage every PS3 owners to try out Flower. Some of you might not like it. But most will no doubt think it's worth the $10 price. It offers an experience unlike anything ever offered on a home console. In my opinion, Flower alone proves Sixaxis is a clear advantage to have on the PS3.
All of this discusion leads to one glaring problem with Xbox LIVE. You are asked to pay $50 a year, yet you cannot play the games with the best grahpics, the best sounds, or the most number of players. It does't even allow you to play the most relaxing game ever made. As such, I am one the many gamers who think Xbox LIVE is a rip-off.
I agree with you but please check your facts because first of all Killzone 2 is on a single layered disk so it's under 25 gigs, second how many players we have online isn't because of the cell it's because we have dedicated servers (with virtually no lag) but did you know that the cell processes in each scene of flower 100,000 blades of grass while simultaneously processing 200,000 other objects on-screen.Tecmo's flag ship IP Ninja gaiden is getting another exclusive bonus content overhaul.
Ninja gaiden 2: Sigma, personally i cant wait this gives them the timne to get rid of the bugs and work on balancing the diverent attacks so it becomes more skill based as alot of reviews were complaining. Extra levels, more enemies, more bosses, extra survival modes and updated graphics like the previous Sigma installment.
Another strong move for sony's growing catalogue. I approve :Dhot114
I bet it will sport 1080p 60fps graphics like in Sigma.
i just finish the game and the graphics are amzing
the models are even better then MGS4 models and even crysis dont have the realistic looks of RE5 models
evreting in the game looks photorealistic, the textures are amezing, i saw a better textures only in crysis
IMO RE5 is realy the graphics king (and yes i playd KZ2) and i dont think that we will see a better looking game this year (maby HR or AW) on consoles
IMO CRYSIS>RE5>KZ2>MGS4>GEARS2
You must play on a sd tv or you need glasses.
