Computer specs and Conflict Reports
Specs: AMD athlon xp 1100 mhz/Nvidia 6200 agp 8x card/2 cdr+dvdr/2 111gig hd/3 system fans/512 mgs cheap ddr ram/700-1000 watt expensive ps
Conflicts:2 cdrs, dvdrs will conflict with one another. You can only really have one
open channel irq (bus channels still conflict whether its win 98, xp or dos).
-Here is an overhauled pc I recently fixed with every component running effectively. Failures: Dvdr drive doesnt work accurately and internet can still crash though (due to updates, no ps2 kb, lack of ram and lack of bios access).
Read to FIX-MY-PC for advice or just do the following: under repair in xp disc (compatible with 64bit xp pro) go into msdos, type chkdsk /r and ure spyware free, clean boots masterboots etc as well. Make sure to do this after cleans, repairs and scans. Dont plug in your pc to the internet or the network registry settings wont be fixed. The article below to read is optional or what I used to do to fix hardware issues when installing a custom mb.
TIP: You need to downgrade as well as upgrd. Two hard drives don't take alot of strength except if its an old mb with lots of data on it, and if the hard drive is a whopping 111 gigs it may cause programs with a computer which has like 10 400 dollar editing programs on it to crash. Lol. IDK though, i had a mb randomly explode on me once. k.
What we did to prevent resets.
New power supply, good. Put settings in 16 bit mode, performance desktop tweaks, registry mechanic services stopped
running the major operations. Took out AVG (its known to have major fw conflicts and large heavy duty performance issues, only
for expensive pcs with lots of ram). Installed a game friendly avast virus system. Took out norton. Defraged hd.
What's the cause of the problem: XP simply needs more than 512 megs of ram.
It reccomends 768 megs of ram to operate effectively mostly if you have two hds, 2 cdr/dvdr drives, usb devices being used, and lots of data.
The expensive ps helps except it wont do alot against overheating. The only problems which will occur are the resets when two or more programs are used,
and no dvdrw cdrw functions for writing cdrs (sorry you need more ram for temp storage data or to uninstall a cdr conflicting program, if there is more than two). Programs like Youtube will crash, new updates and heavy duty programs like windows service pack 3/netframework etc are cause of this.
What needs to be done:
Get a keyboard thats not usb to get into bios. Tweak settings to make o/s run slower eg mhz and ram speed may need to be in stable or low settings.
Clean dust from cpu, fans and mb every once in a while to prevent overheating by opening case with a fourhead. IMPORTANT: make sure cords arent stretched because if
cords are stretched or pulled power issues will occur no matter what. If you do the above, everything can return back to normal. Then you can use a hi-resolution, this card is made for it. You can even have a sleek green task bar menu for all i care.
My Theory: Open to see if dvdrw cables are not even a little loosened, make sure cables are placed in correctly. I have never known a PC to run with a cdrw and dvdrw.
This is a major problem. As well, you just need one dvdrw because it writes cdrs too. Right now, all of the problems are fixed except you cant use the dvdrw. Only cdrw.
One or the other will work because of the irq conflicts under device manager. oh yeah, use reg mechanic under quicklaunch for easy computer maintenance and repair just in case (you may have spyware, bugs or ip tracking-to get rid of this u just reinstall xp by selecting upgrade, nothing will change or be lost, these 'virus' cookies are ineffective anyways because they are cleaned, they just install programs and dont really hijack pcs *money, spam and advertisment related*, expensive ip hijacking programs for the military do that). -A major hacking program which hacks your booting process is still not known to the major mainstream public yet sometimes I wonder. To counter this so called 'trojan' reinstall winxp under a different folder, eg windows3 etc and at the same time do this while unplugged from the internet. On to xp, useful run-time programs (under type run) to check are dxdiagnosis or dxdiag, regedit, and msconfig.
++Of course i only use advanced system care in turbo game mode with ram booster, smart defrag, silent game mode in avast+gamebooster to make my pc run fast (up to 3x faster frame rate then before) for games. Oh yeah, broken taskbars, missing files, broken registries mean you are not repairing your registry every 3 or so months. This includes Defraging the harddrive. If files start appearing where they shouldnt be you probably should. As well, if setup stops running that's a case of a broken registry from data cycling too fast or maybe you got spyware. You should probably unplug the internet and do a repair msconfig prompt under xp boot (chkdsk /r) every 3 or so months if you use a pc or labtop. If a company wants you to get a new pc they just cycle data to your ip address and overflow it with 404s i think, with revenue involved one visit to a company website can be tons of data directed to your ip addy. Now your pc is as stable as a console game system and youre getting what you paid for in the first place.
ADVICE: As long as nothing you don't recognize is in the command menu (msconfig under run), or program files your computer will be safe. Often times, people like Igor will delete glitches or invisible folders. What I found out is there is a fast disk option that saves power. If you check it off it will revert all the files under the harddrive to its original speed. The scan wont move, or mess your files and it's speed/file search option doesnt really work anyways. Compacting the files helps too and then do a defrag. True, they are invisible and unrecognizable except sometimes its just misplaced from the winxp folders and too many random programs and folder saves(hd copying and registrys arent perfect, think of thousands of record players stuck on one another). Regedit will get rid of known spyware, uninstall programs but be careful. Thats how data works. Thats it for now.
Quick Step: To fix XP quickly in a business environment you need to reinstall it upon boot normally, then put XP in a different folder, call it 'windows2' or 3. You will have two O/S's and be able to manually move/delete files and folders without backing them up. This step removes all trojans from scratch as well as keep your system clean by not installing illegal software. make sure you have visible folders, and move or back up your documents and settings. The program files folders will only save small programs not large ones which take up the registry. Trojans hide in program folders, registrys and the taskbar in order to become a nusance. I find uploading the quickest way to back-up and restore save files.
Quick-step Guide
Final Conclusion and Quick Summary.
To get rid of spyware, you just need to go to msconfig>check hide microsoft services, check startup items off and youre good to go. Make sure to uncheck any ms unaffiliated services. As you know, spyware hacks things like netmeeting by replacing it or controlling it with code and unaffiliates itself with microsoft. Winxp alone works as two o/s, one explorer network tcp protocal, and another desktop integrated upon it. No reinstall, Spyware is gone, it might still bug usbs and stuff though so a win xp o/s may help.
As well, to prevent slowdowns, check your firewall settings. Its most likely you have 3 or 4 illegal connections. These idiots will do anything to somehow destroy youre computer via registry. They can even do it with native software, eg multiple drivers on a cdrom. Uninstalling the drivers is best if you find multiple unwanted drivers (unverified by microsoft) for hardware devices such as harddrives & dvd/cdroms. Believe it or not, updates and upgrades of multiple programs cause slowdowns as well, so you would have to keep old programs for out-of-date computers to work properly or uninstall plugins and special features for instance downgrading your internet browsers may help performance as well uninstalling programs which use system resources extensively may help. Finally, the final solution is to browse your registry, even if you have a copied xp, its most likely its build for opensource networking. Here I will briefly rec to download the plethora of icp/tcp resetting programs outthere and rename your hosts file under system32/drivers/etc for safety from bad connections and lag jumps from malware albeit usb bugging might need a fresh reinstall.
Delete all programs under programs in regedit and msconfig you found. Usually preinstalled registry entries such as virus scanners, spybot and other multiple registry monitoring programs are the real cause of slowdown. Then dust off the circuitry and you have it. Large towers require this type brand of cleaning. Case closed. There, you are done. Your xp is back to normal. If you want to be super safe, Reinstall winxp multiple o/s like windows2 or seomthing with internet unplugged. The ultimate solution i found was well, to download Gamebuster and its components on this harddrive. Software now adays is more important then hardware on system stability, and thanks to gamebooster, my pc runs as stable as my xbox 360, disabling and blocking programs its a virus/malware scanner, registry cleaner, game booster, defrag pcbot all-in-one.
- The real key though is just to install Gamebooster and Advanced system care 5 (ram boosting tool+game mode) to make your pc run fast. Smart Defrag and Io malware fighter are optional therefore reccomended. From my experience, a standard ati 1220x videocard and 800 megs of ram ran from 20fps at 80% to a whopping 60 fps on cs source at any given stage. Nowonder, they should have done this years ago. What a waste of money for something you pay for until now. Make your 2008 outdated 1.0 ghz pc finally work! It didnt make sense!?! To tell you the truth software should be built around games. Also, I recently found out custom mbs with like 2 ide slots that noone ever buys, you know the cheap ones have ram issues. If you are a owner of these types of boards, to alleviate this problem, get a hd-tv or use your own monitor@800x600 i guess. Also you might want to keep your ram at 1gigs not 2 for stability. More ram won't help the problem, and the boards aren't made for hi resolutions like 1024. That's life. I finally found this out about the hardware even though this section idoesn't mention it. Xp is unstable. Its what we the consumer pay for!!! Its all about the software. So that's how consoles work!

Notes
-Problems which only occur on custom-built pcs with small mbs (not yours). No updates will be installed, you can't put too many programs on the hd. Andrew noted this once and told me, he said never to buy a custom built mb (meaning smaller ones with one ide channel, one slot etc.) because you will have power issues. My mb happens to be custom built, but cheap! About 50 dollars cheaper. hehe. I actually had problems for three years on finding the exact connector to the ps that was broken (1 out of 6 connectors were shocked from an old mb with ram incorrectly placed), finally pin-pointing it and not stretching the cdrom ide cables. Now with 2 seperate currents I can use 2 dvdrws and 3 fans. I was reinstalling my pc every 3 months and not knowing why. No more resets! I was copying programs which copied sound files incorrectly. That was the problem which lost all my files. A year ago though, my computer would simply go off because of plugging in too many usb devices. This immediately told me i needed to take out the dvdrw and throw it away. It was broken because it was built wrong, tdk built it so the circuitry would overheat (next to the plastic plating). Would not rec tdk dvdrws. Anyways. The power supply issue was resolved simply by turning both fans inside the ps to cool it (if it faces the other direction, youre really doing nothing from making that thing overheat..and yes ps overheat!). In my own personal experience, it didnt go off (have problems) for a year because I simply wasnt playing games with the controller (2008-09 was my break from gaming year). Because of these small hardware issues + badly manufactured parts I bought and couldn't return (in summary bad hds, usb connection glitches, 2 rws, updates and installs, videocard failures, bad connectors or loose connections, 1 gig ram reccommendations etc.) At this time, i had faint knowldeg of 64 bit xp pro as well (did not know u could chkdsk /r from dvd..or simply forgot about it. Every time a hardware boot would come up, id just install over xp a fresh o/s. I keep only a few things on the customized board, and usually leave the case open. Minor note: one gig crashes the pc as well as my 2, regardless so updates and reccommended specs didnt work. The trick i used to have is to not update the machine, because it will cause power problems on small mbs with lots of hardware. Feel free to download any update and put (install) as much programs as you want in it. I basically ran into every single one of these problems at least once. Turns out, the cords were being pushed out because of the timeline difference in the mb 2007 model and ps to the 2004 cdroms (if the thing doesnt boot, the computer moved and cords were loosened causing boot errors). They just didnt fit in right, so tape was the final deal breaker or correct fix (note not part of the alienware computer designs, which work differently using the xp pro o/s and the hd slots of the new models are really an unknown to me). Well hope this tutorial helps. This PC fix it or fix-my-pc guide is kind of just a common sense guide for error-reporting. It took me 8 years to finally realize the manufacturer to my ps had the fans in backwards with no airflow for the cause of misfortune above, which is another factor from problems constantly reoccuring (no wonder my cpu fan fried and my pc was always hot! lol ;p).
