I thought I'd give @Horgen a break and kick off the Saturday thread. ...Technically it's still Friday night here but w/e.

Pretty lousy weather here. Lots of snow, but also lots of ice. Swerved a little on a town road driving home this morning but recovered ok. Tried to stay inside during the worst of the storm.

I cleaned my car off this afternoon and some people next to me were stuck, and it took me and a few snow plow workers to move them. With the lot plowed I figured I should go put air in my tires. Did that, came back, got stuck lol. Fortunately I was able to get moved and park elsewhere.

I might see some work friends at some point, but admittedly kind of wish I had more friends I could hang out with at their houses and stuff. Probably going to have to try taking a more active approach in pursuing my interests in the future and meeting people that way, like going to a gym to meet health conscious friends.

How is your weekend going, OT?

Oh dang, I completely missed that we were talking about the XBox One X and not the XBox Series X lol.

When I was a teenager and LotR Fellowship of the Ring came out. At first I was really interested in it, and promotional stuff for the film got me kind of psyched up for it. My Dad went with me and we watched it. And idk, for some reason the movie just didn't interest me as much as I thought it would at that time. I never ended up watching the other two then.

Well, many years later I ended up watching it over again, along with the sequels, and we're talking the full-length versions. And, I really liked all of them.

I guess when I was younger I had this idea of what a high fantasy world was like, and the movie wasn't matching up to my expectations of it....which is weird, considering that Tolkien was a huge influence on the genre. But I think maybe another thing that negatively impacted my opinion of Middle-Earth was that I only saw the first part of the story. And being younger, one and two years is a long wait for a teenager, so it seemed like it would have been forever until I could see the next part. I lost interest quicker than the movies could come out.

I watched a little over half of the video.

Yeah, the 3DS. In a way the 3DS kind of paralleled all of these years I've been living on my own since I moved. I was looking forward to the system, but kind of pre-ordered it on a whim shortly before launch. The Mii functionality and Streetpass were really the best early things about the system, and probably the first decent game I remember getting was the Ocarina of Time 3D port. Fire Emblem Awakening was really a high point in the life of that device, imo. And when Pokemon Red and Blue, Gold and Silver were all added to the system complete with online functionality, that was just great.

I think the 3DS was a great handheld, but if I am being honest I think the DS had more great games and a better variety of games in its time. But it was clearly a success, and people were happy with its offerings.

There are things I'll miss about it, but the 3DS has been exiting the stage for the last couple of years now.

There's just something about the earlier Super Smash Bros. games that was special. I can still sit down and enjoy Ultimate today, I'm not saying that I hate the games now. But I feel like the original N64 game was the most balanced, and Melee was a great sequel. I think Brawl is where things went downhill, in part because the Smash Ball was added to the game.

The day ended up going a bit differently than I'd expected, so that was good. I didn't get to meet up with that person this weekend either, but I think I'm probably not going to bother again. I ended up getting some new clothes and shoes that I needed, and did some laundry. And I got up the courage to reach out to a person.

Today I kinda want to eat someplace nicer than I usually go to. I know a lot of people will be going to sports bars and watching the Super Bowl, so maybe I'll go in a different direction... gets me some Cracker Barrel or smth lol.

There was a rumor about a week ago that an exclusive Superman game may launch with the Series X.

Of course this just led a bunch of ppl to complain that a Superman game can't be fun. But idk. I mean I'm sick of the superhero stuff in general but I think a Superman game could be decent if done well.

@hrt_rulz01: Very true. Imo the Switch eShop is horribly organized.

Back when there weren't many games yet I wasted money on a little game called Mr. Shifty. Still regret that one...

But the sheer number of shovelware 99 cent games on there is overwhelming. I'm all for supporting the little guy, but at least keep it all separate ya'know?

When the still sea conspires an armor, and her sullen and aborted currents breed tiny monsters, true sailing is dead!

I was very pleased with Man Seeking Woman's ending. The whole series was great imo, and given that the show had plans for a fourth season and was cancelled, I think they did a fantastic job of wrapping up the story they had been telling for three years.

I still wonder how a fourth season would have gone. They said they wanted to try something pretty different with it.
