[QUOTE="Slow_Show"]

Need Teuf in here to settle this, but that sure sounds like 100% USDA-Prime unsubstantiated bullsh*t.

Teufelhuhn

My bullsh*t detector went off as soon as I read the shakespeare quote. The Wii U is what it is: a console with close-to-current-gen hardware performance with its own unique take on controls and a connected experience. Anyone claiming there's some sort of "hidden power" that's going to emerge later down the line is seriously misguided, and is probably just desparately trying to prove that their console of choice isn't as weak as it is. This one is particularly bad, as the author sutmbles through his attempts at throwing in technical specs:

"the console also has 2GB of eDDR4 RAM, about four times as much memory as the Xbox 360 and the PS3 at 512MB. Also the memory transfer speeds in the Wii U are much faster than the competition, as the DDR4 RAM is superior to their DDR3 RAM"

First of all it's just "DDR4" and not "eDDR4". The WiiU has some embedded DRAM but the 2GB of main memory is not embedded. Second, bandwidth of that DDR4 is actually significantly lower than the bandwidth of the memory in the Xbox 360 and PS3. The clock speed of the Wii U's RAM only provides 12.8GB/s , compared to the ~22GB/s provided by the Xbox 360 and PS3 RAM. This is because both of those consoles use GDDR3 memory and not DDR3 memory like the author mistakenly claims (the PS3 also has a pool of XDR memory, which also provides around 20GB/s of bandwidth).

Either way is ridiculous claims that forcing developers to move CPU tasks to the GPU is going to somehow save millions in development costs is beyond absurd. Most development costs come from content creation, not from some programmer figuring out how to get something to perform well.

Wii U has DDR3, and stating clock speed is a very incomplete piece of data for comparing hardware. It's like saying 3B > 2C because B is being multiplied by 3. It's good to know, but it doesn't tell us much if we don't know some of the other aspects of the hardware (clock cycles per instruction, what the ISA is like, etc).

I think in about 2 years we'll see how limited the wii u is. It could be marginally if not at all better than the 360/ps3, it could end up showing off games that put it at a whole other level (i don't think so, they probably were a bit conservative with the hardware because of the costs of the gamepad)

A couple reasons, and hardware isn't one of them (im pretty sure Wii U can handle PS3 and 360 games, it's not THAT bad).

a) low install base - there's currently 2.5-3 million total who own the console

b) demographic - of that 2.5-3 million, how many actually bought it for games like GTA V?? I'm sure most did as they are the hardcore system fans, but you have to think a chunk is wii owners who bought it for their kids or something like that. Which magnifies point a)

c) costs - this kind of goes hand in hand, but when you're looking at a maximum of 2, 2.5 million sales (which history is an indicator, not every wii u owner will buy a particular game), is it worth funding millions to make a port?? at best you're looking at maybe a slight profit or break even, but not much more than that.

d) Nintendo 3rd party history - really since the SNES, nintendo has had bad luck with 3rd party support. I think 3rd party devs are a bit more hesitant with nintendo these days.

Design a system meant for children with a really expensive, delicate controller... what could possibly go wrong!?

I know you System Warriors take great care of your gaming devices, I've seen the pictures you guys have posted of y'alls battle stations. However, kids don't givvafuk.

I didn't know that you needed the Wii U tablet just to log in, and that replacements tablets aren't even available for purchase! I wonder how many kids have already broken their tablets and can't even play on their new systems?

to be fair, the gamepad is built like a rock, There's youtube videos of people doing drop tests of it where they drop it 2-3 stories down onto concrete and it only gets minor scratches on it (and still works perfectly fine)

I'd say Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo

Nintendo gets 3rd i feel. I think they will do well enough to get by this gen and make a profit, but hopefully either their gamepad tech gets much cheaper for next gen so that they can be competitive console hardware wise (and you know, get rid of the wii name, and have a console that looks cool), or they ditch the gamepad and stick with the more conventional wii u pro (or similar design) next gen. Want them to stop seeing being the punching bag on these system wars, hard to see a brand that i grew up with in that kind of light, but then again it is just a business and they have no one to blame but themselves.

Sony gets 2nd if microsoft makes xbox live free. I think (if it hasn't happened already) the PSN will be comparable enough to xbox live to where people realize that it's kind of a ripoff (and im a live member who also has a ps3 and wii u), but if xbox live if free, i think most people who have a 360 will stick with microsoft next gen.

Microsoft gets 1st but i could see them easily blow it if they aren't careful. They need to shift their focus from the kinect a little bit though, at least for a little while.

I think they will. The $599 price point (with the rumored 800 dollars it costed to make the console) hurt them big time in the beginning of this gen. That was mainly because of blu-ray, but I think this gen they will have much more consumer friendly price (~$399) and they'll be sure to have plenty of great exclusive titles. Also their online network has been getting better and better. I think they will be in good shape again next gen barring any surprises

[QUOTE="Novotine"][QUOTE="RyanShazam"]It looks alright. Might get for WiiU.deomag4

LOL! GOOD JOKE!!!!

gotta be honest, of all the games that i could think of that would be really cool to play on the Wii U, this one is it. Hell just having that scanner on your controller like the ones they have in the movies, how sweet would that be?? I mean if this was GTA V or Crysis 3 or something, then who cares but for aliens I'd probably get it for the Wii U myself (if it was being released at the same time, and the reviews don't suck)

*motion tracker...not sure why i said scanner

If I REALLY wanted one at launch, i'd pay $399. I'll probably do what I usually do and wait a year or two after launch when a price cut occurs though. Or I'll pay right away the amount that I paid for the Wii U, which was a whopping $0... i got that janx for free (nice to have cool brothers)
