If you really want to save cash get an Athlon x4 640 + Gigabyte 870A-UD3 + 4GB Kingston Value Ram + 6870 (splurge here) as a base.

You may have to reinstall something and Vista will not like finding out your new GPU when your old HDD has old drivers.

I'd get a 6870 and a 650w PSU. You could also build an AM3 system for slightly cheaper.

Well I posted earlier asking i5 vs Phenom II X6 and people seemed to side with the i5 for games a bit more.

No difference. As you'll probably be playing @ 1080p the CPU is not as important as the GPU.

My 965 idles @ 45 degrees + celsius and hits 53 or so at load in an Antec Two Hundred with stock cooling and fans on low.

Wow, though I never paid attention to some of those cards lengths because the price alone let me know I was just wasting my time lol. Though my case was kinda expensive and not really a small case, I do not want to upgrade cases on this build. (I already ruled out things like a 6970-6990, gtx 580, and the cards like those, I know won't fit, but a mid-high range card like a 6950 it isn't that far off base to hope for it to be under 10.5 inches long).

You take a look at the pics of the size?

Not really understanding your question, but it is ok, thread was kinda pointless anyway.

I meant the size of the 6870; its not really that big.

Yes, you won't need to overclock at all.

Just a thought, if you will be doing light editing, drop the video card out entirely and buy this motherboard:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-GA-890GPA-UD3H-Motherboard-Phenom-Gigabit/dp/B003AP86RQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1289691797&sr=8-2

Which has onboard video, but this will rule out gaming until you buy a GPU. For heavy editing I'd stick with what you have now.
