I'm not sure which to vote for. Sony's Ball on stick offers the best tech, but without a doubt the Wii Motion+ will be the most popular solution with the best games.Luigi_VincetanaWhat evidence do you have that Sony's ball on a stick offers the best tech? What technical specs? What games? You're simply basing this off a hype driven demo where they claim to be superior (as every company does) with no evidence whatsoever to back that claim.
desmondsultanas' forum posts
Well Sony followed Nintendo and just made it better, while M$ made something that does not seem to have much use in gaming now but technically very cool as an interface.wooooodeMade it better? What technical specs do you bring to this argument to make that claim? What games? Anyone who can boldly claim the ball and stick is better after a hype driven, and not very good Sony presentation is just a victim of marketing...nothing more.
Simple. The early core titles you speak of were to entice the 20 million or so Nintendo fanboys that bought the GC to buy the Wii. These titles had nothing to do with the casuals or non-gamers.I dunno. This seems all out of order.
Why would they deliver most of the core titles early? They'd miss out on most of the gamers they were hoping to bridge. Every game you listed in step 4 came out before every game you listed in step 3, with the exception of Excite Truck, a game with, at best, loose ties to Nintendo's past.
Still, this was a much stronger E3 than last year's pathetic performance. Galaxy 2 and Other M are at least something for the hardcore to chew on, while New SMB, Wii Fit +, and Wii Sports Resort are all great for their more casual audience. There might wind up being some crossover down the line.
Still, when you compare the sales of, say, Super Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess to those of Wii Fit and Mario Kart, I don't know if there's a ton of transfer going on. Perhaps it's presumptuous of me to compare those games with some of the hottest titles of last year, but I think, for the forseeable future, those titles will be dwarfed in sales by their more accessible counterparts.
That isn't bad for Nintendo, but it doesn't earn customers in the manner you are implying. It's just a different way.

[QUOTE="desmondsultanas"][QUOTE="kansasdude2009"] That article, and the many others on the website is why I became frustrated with system wars, and never lost faith in Nintendo. Very few people on the forums really saw what was coming.Iamsmee
Ya, jsut read the article, very interesting.
One thing though, there is a WiiSports 2 coming out... But I'm guessing that is for introducing many players to the M+... And the New Super Mario Bros. does also seem like a bridge... Maybe to Super Mario Galaxy 2? Metroid seems too far of a jump to think Nintendo is trying to bridge... But I have NO doubt that the Metroid Prime Trilogy pack is linked to the release of Other M next year. I wouldn't be AT all surprised if it is armed at female gamers, an heroine that ISN'T slutty, that is what I always liked about Metroid (and that's probably why she is speaking as well, btw, she speaks through dialog in Super Metroid, so don't give us this, 'oh nintendo is stabbing metroid in the back because she speaks' bs)... She isn't wearing a bikini while saving the universe, and hopefully it works for them... Nintendo will rule the world within a decade IMO.
Sony and MS have zero franchises that appeal to a wide range of demographics. Zero. Sony is making strides with titles like LBP, but the manor in which it sold was very front loaded like most hardcore titles and failed to catch on. They simply don't have the compelling franchises that appeal to gamers, non-gamers and casuals and that puts them at an incredible disadvantage. When Nintendo launches next gen with few of their huge casual, core, and bridge franchises the party will be over for the competition before it even started... much like this generation.desmondsultanas
I'd say franchises helped, but weren't the defining factor. The first DS and Wii games, Nintendogs, Brain Training, WiiSports, WiiPlay, all my IPs... Mario and the like, helped the bridging, but weren't a defining factor. Sony or MS could have easily used famous third party games, and no, Sony and MS don't have 'zero' franchises, they both would have access to many, whether their own or others. What successful first party franchises do Sony or MS have that bridge the gap between gamer, non-gamer, and casual? The only big ones from third parties that accomplish are the Guitar Hero series and Rockband and they have no probelm putting those games on Nintendo's console.

[QUOTE="Androvinus"]I dont see how the ps3 shamelessly copied the wii when they used their tech that was out years before the launch of the wii (eyetoy) and their console also launched with some motion controls.hakanakumono
Have you forgotten this thing? The SIXAXIS was an attempt to copy Nintendo right from the start.
Oh, so the sixasis looks like a wiimote?
What does the way it looks have to do with anything? The controller was Sony's pitiful revision motion control strategy after they saw the Wiimote.Your post was inaccurate. People were bashing Nintendo for their motion controls before this generation even started calling it the worst idea ever, saying that they were crazy and they'd fall flat on their faces, before even playing these garbage games you speak of "from third parties" as many of Nintendo's efforts were brilliant. 3rd parties never got behind it at all. Everyone dismissed it as a fad. Nintendo proved everybody wrong.[QUOTE="desmondsultanas"][QUOTE="heretrix"]How does anything you typed change what I just said?

No they didn't, wii has already been proven to be a fad in Japan. The sales have deflated and now it's competing with the PS3. It's still receiving fad sales in the NA market, however.
You're still calling the Wii a fad after leading the pack for two years? Wow I thought even the most desperate of fanboys gave that up. PS. Wii is number #1 in sales in Japan between the three consoles in Japan this year, so if the Wii is a fad there what is the PS3? Also Monster Hunter is being packaged with the Black Wii and Wii Sports Resort are coming out this month. What straws will you grasp at then? The initial Wiimote technology was the first to be mass produced as Nintendo was first out of the gate and at that time gyroscope technology was still very expensive to produce. Hickups are to be expected from technology in its infancy, but rather than applaud Nintendo for moving in a bold new direction, the industry and fanboys alike basically scoffed at them. Nintendo is also the first company to bring motion controlled games that work damn well like MP3 Corruption. Finally, Wii motion plus works as it was supposed to and it was unveiled last year. Despite positive impressions that it works like it should people still took the same attitude towards Nintendo this past year even though they were clearly making strides to improve their technology which will come free with most Motionplus software (ie; Wii Sports Resort, Red Steel 2 ect.) MS and Sony show a few tech demo's, one of which is basically exactly the same as motion plus (Sony), and the other from MS looks like it will have very limited functionality in terms of many of the different genres of gaming an yet everybody celebrates and is all for motion control all of a sudden? What a joke. How does anything you typed change what I just said?Your post was inaccurate. I'm sorry. It isn't hypocrisy if it's better. The reason many people hated the Wii controls because
A. It didn't work like it was supposed to
B. Most of the games were crap.
Now Sony and MS has the opportunity to completely disappoint their fanbase with weak party games OR dazzle them with some incredible stuff. They haven't squantered the potential of these devices yet so people are excited. I don't blame them. There is also the opportunity to see what more powerful hardware can do with motion controls.

[QUOTE="jakehouston88"]The key to a successful gaming take-over are bridge titles! Will Sony have those? Also, we can only have one dominating power at a time! :shock:Sony and MS have zero franchises that appeal to a wide range of demographics. Zero.
