[QUOTE="dlp21"]

Sony will make the PS3 a 10 year system, just like the PS was a 9 year system and in it's 7th year the PS2 is the third best selling system(including handhelds). I have no doubt in my mind that the minds who are responsible for Playstation hardware design is hard at work thinking about the PS4 right now as we type.

And the 10 year lifespan is not something new but it is something that Microsoft failed to accomplish with it's XBox. The NES and SNES both had lifespans of 10 years give or take a year. The gameboy had something like a 14 year run. I just hope that MS doesn't dump it's 360 owners the way it did it's XBox owners.

Absynthetic

I wouldnt count on it since all the latest tech trends point to blu ray as the next gen storage media

the next xbox will have to support a high capacity storage medium, either hd dvd or blu ray, leaving the 360 obsolete

Yes, I will agree that high capacity optical media is the way of the future but that doesn't mean that MS will just pull out of the XBox 360 b/c it doesn't have HDDVD or Blu-Ray. If that was the case then Sony should have abandoned the PS when the PS2 came out because DVD was the future and then abandon the PS2 because Blu Ray is the new tech.

I'll give you an example that is not rape, yet it's unnacceptable morally by society.

Would you, as a person that is part of society, accept giving pictures (innocent ones, fully clothed) of children to a pedophile knowing he would satisfy his urges on them (on his own home, without the children knowing about it)?

Think about it. What would be your answer, and why?

I'm sure you're going to say absolutely not. And the reason for that is not because it's rape, nor it's associated with physical or emotional pain to the child of any kind.

It's simply because you (and so is the majority of people within society) would be hurt emotionally by the thought of knowing what the pedophile might do with those pictures.

And for such cases, enforcing morality within society plays a big role in protecting it from such harm (emotional).

morality is the conformity (act of prevailing norms and standards) of right human conduct, and it's decided and enforced by society for the survival of society from abnormalities that harms it (physically or emotionally).

now apply the above example to homosexuals. and you'd understand why it's wrong to accept letting homosexuals satisfy their urges.

Mystery_Writer

You are making an extreme case that does not work. Comparing Pedo's to Gay's is one of the most ridiculous arguments ever. Here is the diffrence, giving pictures of children to Pedo's we can argue is wrong, however you say substitute that with Gay's and I see a gay man or woman looking at another adult man or woman. In this case there is no harm....in fact in the original idea there really is no harm to society, only when a Pedo acts on his urges.

So now I make the example that if a Man loves a Woman they can get married, now substitute woman with man and it becomes wrong all of a sudden, and then do the same with child, once again it is wrong. The problem with your way of attacking this problem is that you use a case that is an exception and then try using substitution.

There are two likely scenraios coming out of this.

1. This whole "guitar-playing" thing turns out to be gimmick and dies off soon.

2. It turns into a genre like racing, or football games, with lots of crappy games and a few good ones.

haols

3. Harmonix continues to lead the way in innovating in the music game genre and continues to have success for a long long time.

True. I am not condemning that. Nintendo innovates on Mario, Square Enix innovates on Final Fantasy, etc. I am just saying that they are milking the franchise, the brand, the name, whatever. They are making use of the popular, successful name and are creating new games based on that name. That's smart, not ridiculous. It's only ridiculous if there are not any significant changes between each game they bring out.

I think your spelling of ridiculous is ridiculous. Why are most people on gamespot incapable of spelling such a simple word correctly? It's always the same freakin' mistake. Seriously, the word isn't difficult.

Anyways, no, I don't think it's really that ridiculous. The franchise is popular. They want to make money. It's normal. They are milking it, but it's not that anomalous to, when you have an established, successful franchise on the market, make as much money with it as you can.

Hexagon_777

I can see how you can say RedOctane is milking the franchise, however, Rock Band which comes from the original Dev team Harmonix is innovating on the franchise that it helped create.

It's starting to become overkill just like with all the "GTA clones", but there still highly regarded and popular. Blue-Sphere

Your analogy here is wrong. Guitar Hero and Rock Band aren't clones, they are a part of the original series, granted there was a fork so you have Rock Band from the original creators of Guitar Hero and now you have RedOctane's Dev team working on Guitar Hero 3. The problem with your analogy is that you say it is like the GTA clones however these games are not clones. I notice that the GTA series is still held in high regard and so I see no reason to believe the same won't hold true for Rock Band...I can see Guitar Hero failing to innovate since the Dev team that created it left and is creating Rock Band.
