@kaealy: Well anyone who has ever killed himself who was not psychotic. If they don't want to go on, they should be free to kill themselves. It is their body, their life... not yours. I am not suicidal, but I would argue that life is largely bad. It is mostly doing things you don't want to do unless you get REALLY lucky. I can see how someone would just want to die even if they aren't homeless/starving. You have no business telling people they HAVE to live.

Nobody has really provided any good argument against what I am saying. It all sounds like you guys just don't like how it makes YOU feel... Some of you are also putting this value on life... as if it were factual that life has some sort of objective value. You may feel that way, but many feel that life is meaningless and not worth living.
@korvus: Well would you have actually done it? Your life being good now or not is not really relevant. It could become terrible, or even better... that does not mean that you should not have the right to die by your own hand.
@SaintLeonidas: The relevant Empathy in this case would be acknowledging what the person who wants to die feels. What is it that you really care about?
Suicide is illegal... which seems silly. I am not saying we should encourage suicide, but if someone who is more or less sane wants to die... he should be allowed to kill himself. I think there should also be assistance for suicide... granted that is what the person in question desires.
So why do people in general care so much about strangers killing themselves? What do you care about exactly?
@xeno_ghost: I am not saying hate them or anything... but yes contradict them and show them how they are wrong. Who cares if people get offended. Either we are going to come together and find real answers and better ways of life or we are not. We ridicule people with nonsense beliefs in every other domain of life... religion should be no different. Imagine if I told you I believe that there are 3 invisible dogs next to me that always follow me and protect me, and that at night when I sleep my soul turns into batman and stops crime, but when I wake up I don't remember what happened. You would think I am insane, and I would immediately be looked at as someone who cannot be taken seriously. Religion should be met in the same way.
@xeno_ghost: I am not just a troll. I meant what I just said. Religion is stupid. And why do I care what people believe? Well because people believing nonsense for no good reason ruins society. It halts progress, it distances us from each other and it prevents us from realistically dealing with situations. Examples? Thanks to delusional people an immense number of people have been murdered in the name of invisible gods, stem cell research has been halted in the past, people have had hard times getting abortions... and we have idiots praying for things instead of actually fixing them. The fact that it is controversial at all to say religion is stupid is mind numbing.
Religion is stupid. Nobody should be religious. It should be like admitting you believe in invisible flying cows. You should be shamed for ever saying "I am religious."
