I think it doesn't really matter all that much... but in the end yes... I think there is no real hope for humanity to achieve a general sense/state of well being. People are way too corrupt, selfish and insanely greedy. Sure there are exceptions, but it seems clear that there is very little hope. American society isn't good for our health. It perpetuates depression because it it is not built around what makes people content... it is built around the idea that what matters the most if buying shiny things. So why doesn't it matter? Because we are all going to be dead sooner than later. Although there is no hope to fix the system fully, we can do some good at least. Be kind, generous and loving at least. Those things make life better.
To dedicate your life to making life for everyone better seems absurd since I am going to be dead soon... why waste my time? It would take hundreds of years of incredibly hard work to make the change this world really needs. I won't be around to see it. With that in mind I would say again... try to do some good, but why obsesses on the failure of humanity? You won't be around to see what happens in the end. Focus chiefly on yourself while doing things on the side that help others, but THAT'S it. Screw this world.
I don't want to have kids EVER... and getting married also sounds like a bad idea. It's pretending you know that you will be in love with someone forever, and want to live with them forever... which is highly unlikely. I am 25... one of my friends has a kid... he is also 25. He can't do a lot of the things he used to... he has very little time to do what he actually wants to do... and he was borderline suicidal when he accidentally got his wife pregnant. I am also pretty sure he only married her because she got pregnant. Also most people are incredibly fake and dishonest... they just make their life sound good on those soulless social media sites... who knows how they actually feel.
Figure out what you love and stick with it... focus on yourself. Sure it is hard to do that... but TRY... your life will always change... sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse. Go out of your way to do what you feel is right. Become who you want to become. Therapy can help... I am sure if you are going to a good University they have counselors... try them. I have been depressed in the past for REALLY long stretches of time... and I am still here... finally living my life as I see fit. Maybe it can happen for you as well.
I think we should. Life has good moments, but let's face it... it's not really worth it. I say we cut our losses, say f it... and check out. We tried. I think it will be better that way. What do you think?
@always_explicit: This isn't pseudo anything... I am telling it as it is. Also that idea about being lonely do to feeling superior is misguided. There are truths to be known about this world regarding what brings about human well being. Obviously there are a lot of answers we don't have yet... but if I know a lot more about you (not saying that I do) about these things, AND you reject them when presented to you due to being foolish... obviously we will be too distant to bond and both of us could end up lonely.
Being superficial isn't always bad... but largely being superficial I think is bad. Why? It prevents genuine, deep and sincere relationships... and that is inherently good for us since we are social creatures that thrive in healthy social environments.
