they are ahead of the market in both features and price, purposely. once hdtv becomes standard ps3 will be the biggest bargain on the planet technology wise. so they just have to wait it out, stick with their longterm plan, make some great games, and hope for the best.
wii isnt competing with 360 and ps3. totally different demographics. totally different hardware capabilities. it cant win next gen because it really isnt next gen. its a secondary console. nintendo knew it couldnt compete with sony and microsoft, so they built and marketed it towards non-sony/ms customers. great business move, but quit acting like it is/will dominate next gen.
yes they have been loyal. i got my ps2 at launch and it still works perfectly with new games still coming. as a ps3 owner i am confident that seven years from now my system will still be supported just like with my first two. i also appreciate that it has no additional hidden costs with a bunch of necessary accesories and subscriptions, which is very customer friendly.
ps3 is made for hdtvs, most casuals/people dont have one yet. sure you CAN play it on a sdtv, but if you dont plan on going hd any time soon than you just wasted $200 and shouldve gotten a 360. sony prolly wanted to wait a little longer for hdtv to grow so the value of the $600 price tag was evident, but microsoft forced sony to release it too early w/o games or enough hdtvs (and thats why theyre winning).
the key for ps3 is to wait for hdtv saturation, as it will sell much better then and wont seem nearly as expensive. sony has set it up to dominate later in its lifespan rather than immediately. but will it make it till then?
well lets just hope it kills madden for a year so EA will actually improve the game. but regardless, i cant deny madden and have been getting it on launch day for the last 6 years even tho i know its not that great of a game.
