in resistance i was playing a 40 player breach online with unlimted ammo and it was crazy. everyone was trying to take the final reactor and it was total chaos. at least 40 different grenades, 20 different laark missiles, augers going through walls, and rpgs all exploding and flying over your head at the same time without any lag at all. all taking place in the same tunnel. i couldnt believe how much was going on at the same time. the cell is a beast.
sony also has 100 million plus ps2's out there and they still keep selling more. they cant abandon all those people and possible revenues. not everybody needs next gen yet. sony overloaded their console so that in two years when hd becomes standard it will be ready with the necessary technology. the ps3 is setup to dominate a year or two from now with blue ray, while still providing devoted gamers a chance to play next gen now. microsoft has a short term strategy to take some marketshare from sony and possibly kill the system before it gets up and going. they are succeeding somewhat, but the sony name and first party support is just two strong to overcome in one gen.
im in college and couldnt afford an expensive tv either. got a sharp 20 in LCD 720p and it is very nice. i got it on sale for only $315 (about $475 normally) and it has hdmi and everything else i need. i just walked into a store unexpectingly and there it was on clearance like a gift from god. i suggest you just look around for a while, the prices are dropping and sales going on all the time. patience will do you good. im very pleased with my purchase. good luck!
