@bababooey12: It can be argued that the most hardcore of gamer's are PC gamer's. You even agreed to the casualness of the Xbox by mentioning family; "I think that sounds like the better investment to me, especially if you have a family...". This is true and totally fine by me.
But from my point of view as a lonesome, but content PC gamer I like to see things at their best. Unfiltered and without the BS. Yes its very expensive to build a PC, but do not downplay the fact that you have build options and the fact that a PC is a dam PC; not just a gaming console. Your money is well invested if you shop wisely.
Lastly, 4K tv's are great for netflix, ect. But terrible for gaming. You stretch out the images beyond their pixel count and destroy the visuals. Not worth it.
If you ask me the best you can do at the moment is the following....
PC with 1440p G-Sync IPS monitor in one room + PS5 with some 4K TV. Beyond that I just don't see the point.
Bonus: Do not bother with a $2000 4K television if you refuse to invest in a decently rated receiver along with proper bookshelf speakers. Great visuals with terrible sound makes little sense. 5.1 Speaker set up is great for movies, but for games you would do better with headphones or bookshelf speakers.
Bonus2: Matter of fact do not even bother with $2000 televisions, biggest rip off going right now. I wouldn't spend more than $800 on a 4K TV. The 4K tech is hardly there to be worth the cost. Wait a little longer and the greater quality tv's like LG's OLEDB9P series will drop in price.
@gamerbum: Forget the PS5. I can slap a 3080ti on my PC come September and make your unreleased console look like hot trash. PC will play Halo Infinite better too.
My point is why bother with Xbox if Microsoft and many third party developers will bring all their games to PC.
Where is the excitement? Cant afford a 3080ti? Ok then get the 3080 Super... still no? Fine get the next Navi from AMD. They are fantastic as well and still miles ahead of the consoles.
And how about we stop kidding ourselves about Ray Tracing; Ray Tracing is currently only possible in CGI films. For games you would need a card 50x faster than the fastest card out now to make it happen.
So lets call this thing what it is; RTX reflections nabbed from Nvidia’s RTX technology.
As an example NVIDIA’s RTX cards can at the very least work some lighting tricks along with ray traced shadows and reflections. But this is not the wonderful ray traced lighting pathing you get in cgi films.
So what can we make of your console’s “ray tracing”? Nothing... just another sad buzzword like Teraflops.
@louixiii: Halo Infinite should have been perfect. There is literally no excuse for what they had to show during the world premiere when you consider how well the franchise has performed for Microsoft over the years.
Microsoft cheap'ed out and decided it was best to invest in other things. Fan's better hope this isn't a continuing trend with the advent of Game Pass; Quantity over Quality.
I know this sounds angry, but I'm sure they are kicking themselves right now too!
@thecupidstunts: Exactly how is that good for gamers?
I think Xbox executives need to show some amount of passion for games. With this launch I'm just not seeing it, not in the same way Sony demonstrates it generation after generation.
@lonewolf1044: What.... do you expect me to be impressed by this? Do you take me for the typical ignorant who doesn't understand Microsoft's very successful software business, overall scale and contribution to the tech industry?
Their success elsewhere is totally irrelevant to Xbox and you are sorely missing my point.
What is the point in bringing their other successes? That they will be alright? No you would be wrong.... Microsoft has alot of money but it doesn't grow on trees. Allocating cash and assets from one business division to the next is bad business and not common place. Please read up more on business before going off on a tangent.
Xbox never hyped me even for a minute. I see their weak launch and crash from miles away.
The lead Sony will have this generation will only widen from here on. I am on the Sony camp, but only because of my love for great, innovative games.
I would love for Microsoft and Xbox to succeed. But they aren’t really trying hard enough. And they seem to care very little for genuinely great game experiences.
