I think your good man, dont worry about it. My PS3 fan is going pretty much all the time and it works flawlessly. I've had it since December 07.

Whether it is broken or not, he should still send it in. The fan is thermally controlled and shouldnt spin up unless the hardware is running very hot. Your PS3 is probably still running because the hardware was designed to handle high temperatures but that doesnt mean they should. To the OP, your PS3's fans are spinning faster and louder than normal. That is a problem. Why not send it in if your PS3 is still under warranty? You wont have to regret not doing so in the future.

I think you should send it to Sony. Earlier this week, I had my PS3 over my surround sound receiver which puts out ALOT of heat. The fan went full blast and the bottom of the PS3 was burning hot. It sounded like a vacuum. The fan shouldnt spin up unless the hardware is getting hot or if the thermal sensors are broken.
