saving fairly often seems to help reset my internal screw up meter... the longer I go after saving the more likely I am to tackle something I shouldn't or execute that flying attack of the mystic knight right off the edge of the mountain straight over the harpy (true story!)

RC is a scare commodity? I have over 58k of it atm...and my pawn has brought almost all of that in while out with others. Shoot she brought back over 12k the other night off of one trip out. If RC is scare then take a look at your pawn and make sure they are configured in such a way that others will find them useful as well. As for the difficulty, it is not dark souls difficult where you should be on the ball all the time, but if you get cocky in this game you can be smacked down pretty quick, especially if your not prepared or willing to run away should you be taking a proper beating. Also the things you could take at 10 are _going_ to be easier at 20 and 30...they don't change as you level, however the further you get away into the hinterlands the harder things are going to be so just running around at night outside near camp isn't really going to be a challenge.

sometimes hiring some higher level pawns can help, ones that have knowledge of the quests you want to do, set them as your active quest and they will start saying things about it...can be very helpful when they start running towards the destination and you just need to follow them, that has happened a couple of times for me. also explore your Status screens under the Start menu (ps3), one of the options in there are things that your pawns have said, you can find nuggets in there if you turned off the screen pawn subtitles.

it is an excellent game, in terms of difficulty it is not on the scale of dark souls which was unforgiving, this game is forgiving, up to a point....after which you will be presented the retry screen for being cocky. but like dark souls, it is fair and unless your a gamer that likes their hand held all the time, it should be fine. IMO if your on the fence get it and the strategy guide, that will take out the majority of trial and error that is the common reason for death (ie wonder if I can take these guys?) as it should tell you what levels are safe where honestly, this game is one that people will kick themselves over having missed, its is an utter gem of an rpg

There are 'free range' pawns that you can hire if you have no network connection. I will mention that the online aspect of this game is very minor...you never actually _play_ with anyone else, you just have the option of hiring other peoples main pawns as opposed to the ones that exist in the world.

Not 100% sure how the name filter works but I assume if they have the family filter on and your Pawns name is offensive the default name will appear..  Hopefully they see your Pawns original name.

if they have the family filter on _only_ the moniker will display, that is the safety measure, if family filter is on there is no chance for bad things to come through as only pre-generated and vetted options can be chosen

it tells you the 'Who' when they come back, as well as what they learned fighting certain mobs, and what advancement on certain quests as well

There seem to be a wealth of status conditions that can effect you and the pawns and its not always obvious which is which and what the effects are. I am kicking around getting the strategy guide just for a better description of what is what in ailments and cures. I like the combine crafting mechanism, it is a neat side distraction.

I am curious what people think about this mechanic where your maximum health deteriorates as you take damage so healing gets less effective. (ie you can't get magically healed up to your maximum health) You can mitigate this by using herbs and whatnot to restore back up to maximal health...but I think this is where a healthy chunk of the difficulty comes from in venturing further out away from a safe inn and the like. Thinking about it, it is like you have two aspects of the health bar, physical health and morale...where morale is replaced by sleeping in an inn or...herbs I guess :P
