This reply is mainly to the OP: If you are requesting demos for everything, and compairing it to console rentals, does that mean you'll accept a service whereby you PAY to try games? Demos aren't availiable for every game, but they also don't cost you anything so it's really a luxury you should'nt demand or complain about. If you ar willing to spend cash for the service though, i'm sure there are peopel who would be happy to provide a service
TeamR

Good idea. Yes, I would pay a few dollars to try before I buy.

does any1 else think that the graphics, gameplay, sounds etc... on halflife 2 are amazing, they may not be the best but this truly is a ground-pounder of a game.

the story mode is amazing, the range of weapons are great, the storyline fits fine.

any1 else agree?

IMHO, HL:2's gameplay was terrible. You should play HL:1, then tell me which game was more FUN to you, personally. I think you will prefer HL:1 - especially the levels where you fight humans!

Half-Life 2 is terrible? If you have played Half-Life, then you will know by now that Half-Life 2 does a whole lot of the same things as Half-Life 2 with added graphcis and excellent physics.

Half-Life 2 is a brilliant game. It does everything that Half-Life did back when it was released, and for a linear FPS game, its extremely entertaining.

Please explain why you think HL:2 is brilliant. HL:2 has no AI and therefore absolutely bland gameplay. AI and fun gameplay were HL:1's strong suit.

Why? GTA started on the PC, all the major GTA games have hit the PC. No announcement on GTA4? Proof of nothing. GTA4 wasn't announced for PC until after it was out on the PS2. Rockstar is just sticking to its formula, and that formula strongly indicates that GTA4 will be coming to PC late in 2008.

Unless you have proof, or a reasonable reason to believe no GTA4 on PC, let us have it. Otherwise, you got nothin'.

mfsa

Agreed. Why would they NOT release GTA4 on PC? Even with all the god damned pirating, it'd still be a money maker, and that's what it's all about at Rockstar.

I can see why some people may not like Oblivion (although I personally do), but how can you hate Half-Life 2?BlueBirdTS

HL:2 had a good graphics engine, physics engine, excellent production values, a great background (I played HL:1 when it first came out) and basically everything going for it. However, the gameplay is boring. The guns don't feel right, the action is stale. The opponents have no AI. One of the best features of HL:1 was the AI, but HL:2 feels like I am fighting retarded robots. Also, the story in HL:2 was super lame. It started off WONDERFULLY, but went absolutely nowhere. I suppose Valve was to busy readying Steam to take over the PC gaming world, which it has and has made the company extremely wealthy and powerful. If only they had put that kind of effort into making HL:2 FUN to play, instead of a chore. By the end of the game, I was glad it was over. Suckfest.

I've pretty much learned to spot the good stuff in my time as a gamer. I sometimes make mistakes, but only very rarely. I haven't bought a game I later regret buying in longer than I can remember.

I can live without demos. They're nice, but ultimately unnecessary if you know what you like and you do your research properly. The only wildcard is how well games run - but most games are usually patched into adequacy eventually anyway.

mfsa

I disagree.

Half-Life 2 and Oblivion were both hyped, looked great in all videos, had great reviews, had good concepts, had tried and true game mechanics, and both utterly failed. Only a demo would have shown me that HL:2 sucked. It's debatable that an Oblivion demo would have obscured the monotony of fighting giant rats for 120 hours, so maybe a demo wouldn't have scared me off, but five minutes with HL:2's "AI" and "Gameplay" and I would have been rushing to replay HL:1 instead.

OP - What would you say to a well-recieved GTA4 port with no demo? No sale? gotcha455

That'd end up in the No Demo? No Sale bin.

For a GTA game, I'd really have to try out the controls (keyboard and mouse) to make a purchasing decision.

I was just wondering what all of you are thinking of the upcoming game far cry 2. There is a interview saying that the game is in the beta stage and content wise this game is complete. Here's the source: http://www.9lives.be/node/105869 read the interview and tell me what you think. Also there is another preview with 9lives but i couldn't find the link. I really hope this game comes in march. Ubi's offcial site still says march as well. Now for the questions.

Is this game a must have for you?

What looks most exciting about this game?

Does the Dunia engine look impressive to you?

What do you think the mutiplayer will be like?

Do you like the african setting?

Also some interesting story details are: "everybody" has Malaria including you, so you need money to buy medicine to keep yourself alive. So you need to complete missions or steal diamonds to buy it. However if you go on a blood thirsty rampage killing everything that moves. Your character will start to "lose it" and you will need a meranary friends to come you down and the medicne camp might not let you in again. I am to lazy to post a link. But go to www.infarcry.com , check their wiki and look for " new story details revealed" Thanks for reading

gamerguy845

Looks very exciting, but I'll have to try the demo. Africa looks great! The engine is good. I just hope the AI is up to par.

I was left a little underwhelmed by the Crysis demo.

The visuals are great and it runs well

The AI however was a real mixed bag. Guards are either psychic - like ol' mr. boat gunner who can see me from his boat ontop of a cliff crouching - or guards are stupid and won't be bothered by bodies etc.

I am not saying its a bad game - many love it - but something about it left me really unsatisfied -

Did anyone else feel this, particularly about the demo?

- BL

PS: Happy 2000 or 2001 post. :D

biggest_loser

I like Crysis, but the AI is terrible. That's sad because I loved the AI in Far Cry.
