read reviews, check websites for demos, most of the big games have them. And if your still not happy just torrent it, OH NOES HE WENT THERE. That way you can "Try before Your Buy". Demos take time to do, which cuts into the time the game comes out. Id rather have a big title come out than wait for a demo to come out but i understand your point, but its not really a big problem lol. bindip

I refuse to pirate - just visiting their torrent sites indirectly supports them.

You know its a bad day for PC gaming when Epic puts priority or consoles.

Here's what he had to say: "I think people would rather make a game that sells 4.5 million copies than a million and "Gears" is at 4.5 million right now on the 360. I think the PC is just in disarray… what's driving the PC right now is 'Sims'-type games and 'WoW' and a lot of stuff that's in a web-based interface. You just click on it and play it. That's the direction PC is evolving into So for me, the PC is kind of the secondary part of what we're doing. It's important for us, but right now making AAA games on consoles is where we're at."

So i want a single player game. Any good ones? Also i hate RTS games please dont reccomend them.unrealplaya55

Chronicles of Riddick is excellent.

Far Cry still holds up well.

Crysis is decent.

Max Payne 2 still holds up VERY well.

Doom 3 is OK.

STALKER, HL:2, COD:4, Prey, Quake 4 all suck.

Does anyone feel the same way I do? Don't get me wrong, its a polished game no doubt but, I just don't enjoy playing it. FPS's have always been my favorite genre, but something about the CoD series never got me to bite. Really, while playing it online - it just feels like an meaningless frag-fest, no rhyme or rhythm to it at all. I remember when MOH:AA was *the* WWII shooter, I was so disappointed when its playerbase halved and left for CoD, all for what felt like an inferior shooter. I guess people were just looking for something new. Ugh, sorry. I just had to get that off my chest.Av177

With you 100%.

COD:4 and HL:2 are just shooters-on-rails, and get old quickly.

discuss. by the way, i hate it when an RPG needs to be non-linear to be great. i simply love both linear and non-linear RPGs.

lordlors

Sandbox FPS pwns all. Linear, on-rails shooters like COD:4 and HL:2 are teh suk.

STALKER didn't have a demo, so I guess I took a gamble on that, thankfully it paid off.nutcrackr

To each his own. I took a gamble on STALKER, and was pwned by bugs. Don't just stand there, COME IN!

[QUOTE="--Ryu--"]

It really isn't gambling if you know the developer history, have read reviews, and watch gameplay trailers.

With that said, It would still be nice to get a demo of the game first.

Krall

I used to think that, but I've been burned a couple of times on surprisingly enough Firaxis games.

I actually get more peeved wasting money on music CDs that are trash save for 1 or 2 good tracks. I buy much more of that stuff then PC Games. Anyway even with demos it doesn't mean you getting the game you think you are. I've played some demos that seems to be intentionally polished and didn't represent the whole game accurately.

And if Krall agrees with me, I know I'm right!!!

Excluding 9.0 games? Absolutely not, those games require demos more than any other. The best games ever made score under 90, so a critics opinion is pretty much worthless.SKaREO

You are correct, sir.
