Well, first get memtest and check your ram for 4 hours. Then get prime95 and let it run for 4 hours. If both of those are ok with no errors, then its the game, or more likely, you will need an updated driver from ati for your 4870. Thats if your not using any mods for Oblivion.

Hello there.

Currently, I'm looking for a new case, and have narrowed it down to two choices within my price range. The Antec 900, and the Thermaltake V9.

The question is which one should I get? Both look like they are really nice. I'm leaning more towards the Thermaltake V9 right now, but noticed that the Antec 900 is a very popular case.

I dont do a whole lot of gaming on my PC right now, mainly putting in flight hours in FSX, but plan on changing that soon. I Figured I want a nice case so I can eventually upgrade to a nicer video card without worrying too much about heat.

Any opinions  are welcome. Thanks!

I say get the Thermaltake V9 Black Edition EDIT I had to try to post that 4 times thanks to the random your html is not well formed error. The 2 230mm fans=great air flow at low db's. Just make sure you have a good exhaust as well if both of those fans are intakes. It doesnt look like the specs are up to date on newegg.

using firefox 3 and if I try to make any changes in a quote, like italize that equals utter failure. Also if i try to do basic html editing, mostly for linking, since I dont like using BBcode, I get the html not well formed error. example link. Is this ever going to be fixed? EDIT notice how since the link doesnt go anywhere I dont get the your html is not well-formed error now.

Looks like its a 300w psu from what I can tell. Its not easy to get specs for that system, even on Acers website. I suggest upgrading that psu to a 500w before you decide what gpu to get. You can find a 500w for cheap at newegg

=another bandwagon fan

Ha yeah right I've been a Titans fan since 04 and a Giants fan since the BEGINNING of last season, so yeah don't call me a bandwagoner or w/e

If your a fan of any other team other than your hometown team, then you are a bandwagon fan. Nobody roots for an out of state team thats a loser. =bandwagon fan.

Grab a HT Omega Striker or if you have the money get the HT Omega Claro. Despite the fact that I own the "top" of the line sound blaster card, I would rather have the HT Omega, but they were more expensive at the time. My sound is really good, but it could be better.

No one here is saying that upconverting a dvd gives you blu-ray quality, and of course fixed resolution displays upconvert/downconvert the image on their own. That's not the point. The point is that many displays have a crappy scaler in them. I'm not trying to slight the OP's choice of display, but I would bet that almost any upconverting dvd player would do a better job of it than that display's internal scaler. I have a Samsung A650 that does a pretty good job on it's own, but I still prefer the upconverted image that my Toshiba HDA1 sends it. Now if I had a current generation Pioneer Kuro then I, like most owners of that display, would probably want to feed it a 480i signal and let the display do all the work.

As for the original question: I read the spec sheet for your display and it says that it is capable of accepting 1080i and 1080p signals. It then scales them down to 720p. I would say feed it whatever signal looks best to you.

I never said "upconverting" dvd players give blu-ray quality. I was trying to make the point that "upconversion" is a myth with HDTV's. Yes, a upconversion dvd player may handle that conversion better, making it look better compared to allowing the tv to do the conversion in most cases, but the fact of the matter remains that the conversion was still taking place before "upconversion" dvd players. Thats the point I was making. You get what you pay for when it comes to the quality of scalers in HDTV's. And out of all tv brands I've experienced in my line of work, Samsung's handle it the best, in my opinion.
