[QUOTE="ghaleon0721"]Oblivion sucks!enormousaxie
And why does it "suck" if I may ask..?

Read my other thread. It's boring, slow paced, the combat is button mashing, environments are beautiful but empty...this list goes on and on. You tell me how leaving a town, exploring the countryside, finding a cave, exploring it for an hour, finding nothing but unpickable locked doors, and fighting 3 enemies in an hours time is an engaging, memorable gaming experience.

What came out during the PS2's first year that was so awesome huh? Nothing. I'll bet if you asked 100 PS2 gamers to list their top 25 games for the system, I'll bet maybe 3 of them will list a game that came out during the PS2's six months. MGS2, FFX, Devil May Cry, GTA3, those all came out almost a year after the PS2 launched. The one thing that Sony needs to deliver on is something GROUNDBREAKING. You cannot deny that the runaway success of the PS2 is due, in major part, to the Grand Theft Auto Series. GTA3 changed the way we play, the way we think about games, and it changed our understanding of what a video game was capable of. It was something special and it sold PS2's like CRAZY during that second X-mas season. Lair might do the same thing if the sixaxis controls are implemented well. However, I don't think that the game is going to have quite the same mass appeal as something like GTA which has a more contemporary setting. Heavenly Sword looks cool, but it looks like another GOW/DMC clone with beefed up graphics. It will be cool, it will be fun, it will be great, but it isn't going to change anything. GTA4, DMC4, FEAR, and everything else that has been announced just seems to be more of the same stuff. Sony needs something NEW. Something FRESH, SOmething GROUNDBREAKING that can only be played on the PS3 because of its superior computing ability and blu-ray capacity. The PS2 was such an improvement over the PS1 because it changed the way we think about games. I only hope the PS3 can do the same. I'm hoping that MGS4 and FF13 come through and REALLY offer gamers something extraordinary.

Sounds like everyone is saying to "give this game a chance" but I don't think I'm going to. I appreciate the "try this...." type of suggestions but I just don't see any point. I mean punching a guard in the face and then trying to escape the city just doesn't sound that fun to me. Why do it? Is there a reward? Does something happen? I felt the same way about GTA. I never bothered to try and piss off the cops enough to get a full wanted level then try to get away because there was no point. Nor did I find it worthwhile to find all the jumps. However, I found GTA to be much more engaging and faster paced for people like me who just want to get to the story and beat the game. I know that Oblivion has the "fast travelling" feature, but I don't really want to use it that much since I feel like I might miss something along the way. I like to go straight for the meat of the game, but I also like to explore and find the little extras. Usually, doing that in a game yields extraordinary results. I think that's why I had such distaste for the empty cave that I found. I was on my way to complete my quest and I decided to walk around a little bit off the path and found this cave. I thought to myself "Ah ha, here's something worth exploring" and I EXPECTED to find a dungeon with enemies, traps, and puzzles so that I could raise my levels, then at the end I would find some rare item the help my character get stronger. Usually, a game rewards its players for taking the time to do the little extras. It seems to me that this game is made up entirely of little extras. And if the first side-quest I attempted is an indication of things to come, then no thanks. At least make a side quest that requires me to use a special set of skills. IF you're going to have me follow a guy, make me do it without getting caught. Don't just make me walk around watching this guy bump into stuff. It seems to me that if the sidequests were more skill-based, I could then choose the quests that best suited my character, or choose quests that would develop the skills that he needed to round himself out. Also, why did I spend half an hour crafting the facial features and look of a character that I never get to see? I know you can switch to 3rd person view but lets be honest, it's pretty much useless and it looks horrible. And the first person view is kind of a novel idea for this type of game, it just doesn't seem to fit. The whole thing feels a little clumsy and the lack of any kind of special moves or combat abilities is a real turn off. It makes combat limited to "point at the bad guy, and mash the R1 button"

Well, decide what you want to do and do it. JOIN A GUILD!!! Have you completed any quests for anybody?

What I want to do is PLAY. I tried to complete some a quest, but I found that it too was boring, dull, and required a lot of walking around. I also found that there was no way to lose. I could do whatever I want, and it had NO effect on anything else in the quest. I asked some of the people in town where the guilds are and they said that there aren't any in town. And I have to go somewhere else. I can only assume that somewhere else means a lot of walking and a few encounters with some chaotic-evil grass hoppers

[QUOTE="BenderUnit22"]I agree with you, the game can get boring if you don't feel like "I wanna do everything there is to do". Since you don't seem to feel that urge of exploration, I suggest you stick to the main quest as it's pretty much the only guiding line throughout the game that makes you feel like you're part of a story. Once you reach the first Oblivion gate (from the story point), there's a bit more scripting and people interacting with you, although it's usually just you and a bunch of monsters in the end.

It's not that I don't feel as though "I wanna do everything there is to do" because I did have the urge to explore, try a little of everything, and role-play certain scenarios to help develop my character outside of the main quest. It's just that, the few things I tried so far were boring and terribly done. I mean I started a quest where I have to follow a guy but there was no way to lose. The game has a "sneak" button, so it just seems odd that the "sneaking" action is not required in this particular quest. I mean, I walked right up to the guy and bumped him. Nothing happened. And an empty dungeon? Not even enemies? That is just crazy. I realize that not every little task is going to be epic, but it could have been a little more engaging.

Ok, I get that it's a "role-playing" game in the truest sense of the word and that I have to "role-play". But it seems that the game has tried to be everything, and thus is nothing. The example I gave of following Thoronir out of his shop and trailing him to his meeting with Agarmir (spelling?) was completely ridiculous. I mean, I practically ran into the guy a few times, walked in front of him, etc. and nothing ever happened. I mean, wouldn't it make sense that there would be some point where the guy noticed you following him, or got suspicious or paranoid. I didn't have to sneak, I didn't have to hide, I didn't do anything but just walk and watch this guy wander for half an hour. I get that I could choose whether I wanted to be sneaky, or blatant with my pursuit and that is some how "role-playing". But I don't see the fun in that. To me, "role-playing" doesn't mean "Do whatever you want and still win" The same thing with the cave that I found. I tried to give the game a chance and I explored the outside. I found a cave. I went in. It was empty. I walked around the damn thing for 45 minutes. I found ONE skeleton and a few strangely aggressive rats. No treasure. The cave didn't lead anywhere except a bunch of dead ends. I'm all for role-playing. But so far it seems that I'm playing the role of the guy who likes to walk around alot.

I see a banner ad for Best Buy at the top of this forum and it depicts a copy of TMNT for PS3. Can someone please confirm that it exists for PS3? Gamestop doesn't have it listed on their website. I've never seen it. Is it coming? When?
