This is kind of related I guess....but this was the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen....

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=25813931&page=0

Some people in there are thinking $20 an hour is great pay...and that $60 an hour is ridiculous and only doctors would make that??? $20 an hour is absoluley nothing...its like a job one step higher than a minimum wage job....

What world am I living in??? $60 an hour is average if you get a decent job out of college......and doctors pay is A LOT more (I cant emphasize A LOT any more) Its been broken down (they dont get payed by the hour) that doctors make around 400-500 an hour....

Some people actaully believe that $60 an hour is not even realistic??? Thats the average pay for most people... I couldnt believe what I was reading....

Some people here dont really have a clue about the world and working...I knew this place was filled with teenagers but I figured you guys would know something about real life and pay....

papageorgio22

I make almost 50 bucks an hour at my part time job lol

I know...thats why I found that entire topic ridiculous...

People in there thought that $60 an hour was even a lot for doctors :?.....Some people here are really really delusional...

$60 an hour is average pay....they were all laughing at me and saying how dumb I was when I said that.....

u my friend are delusional 60 dollars an hour is great pay. what **** doctor makes 600 dollars and hour. unless you are a surgeon and thats what 12 years of school.

12 years of school is misleading. After your second year in med school you get paid to go to school, about 40k, and more as you advance.

Can I just ask how old you are?

This is not a discussion, it's an opinion, and as such, noone is wrong. I just ask that you actually research what you're talking about before saying, "omg lollers doctors make millions lulz, kill yerself at denny's lulz."

guynamedbilly

""omg lollers doctors make millions lulz, kill yerself at denny's lulz." this pretty much sums up how i feel. makes life more exciting.

Umm there are outliers, but the general trend is that the more educated you are the more money you make, use google you will find that to be the truth. Also I want to become a cardiac surgeon, in the states you start at 400k and go to over a million.

"What is the average income of a cardiovascular surgeon?
Lots! 400K - 1.5M"
http://www.amsa.org/surg/cardio_int.cfm

Those figures are from the year 2000-2001 so they are probably less than what they are today.guynamedbilly

http://swz.salary.com/salarywizard/layouthtmls/swzl_compresult_national_HC07000310.html

Honestly, how old are you guys? You act like my brother when he was 13 and wanted to be an astronaut/fireman/policeman/doctor/lawyer/superhero.

umm your link is to CNN, who phoned up HR departments to do a survey, doesnt seem accurate, but hell I'd take a 400k+ paycheck anyday. BTW I personally know a cardiac surgeon that makes over 1 000 000, and it isnt that uncommon lol.

You are crazy if you think doctors regularly make 400 an hour. Salaried employees are calculated by an 2080 hour work year. A person making 400 an hour would be making $832,000 a year.

Like I said, you're crazy if you think most doctors make that.

umm read my post i said that cardiovascular surgeons made 400k-1.5m back in 2000-2001 http://www.amsa.org/surg/cardio_int.cfm

This is incredibly cliche, but money =//= happiness.

I don't need a freaking Mercedes and a big house to be happy. I'm low maintenence and just want to get a good job. I don't plan on getting married unless a miracle happens (I find someone)

But yeah, I don't give a crap about my grades. I got a 3.6 GPA in high school, and its totally worthless. I'm in college, and guess what?

Grades mean nothing.

skullkrusher13

You're wrong, it has been shown that people below the poverty line are generally less happy because they cannot afford the basic necessities. Is a Mercedes a necessity? No. But, proper nutrition, shelter, and clothing are. Also some people are just happier when they have a lot more money then what the basic necessities require (if money, influence, and power are your thing, then this means you. Not everyone shares the same interests, though). It's all just what floats your boat.

your argument fails. I meant grades mean nothing as long as you pass. If you can get through college, there is no doubt you can get a good job and have the "basic necessities"
Also, people who are religious generally have a higher level of happiness compared to non-religious, you failed to mention that...

"Grades mean nothing as long as you pass" seems contradictory to me. You need grades to pass, so they do matter. So what is passing? To get into my university from high school it took me 85%. So is an 85% considered a pass? To get into medical school it will take a 3.85 average, is 3.85 a pass?

If people are going to a community college, and their GPA in high school was 1.6, is 1.6 a pass?

Grades matter as much as you need them. If you want to work at McDonalds then a GPA of 0.8 is overdoing it, but if you want to get into med school where I live, a 4.0 is a safe bet.

its not contradictory, you just think it is. Andwhy are your posts so all or nothing? Give me a break. You always go to extremes when talking, and its just failure. (Ex. the guy committing suicide/being rich, basic needs/being rich,Community College/Medical School, McDonalds/Medical School)

Seriously, I can't even argue w/ you because of this. Passing = getting credits for a clas$ toward graduation. If you can do this in high school and college, you can live a good, albeit not rich life. Even non-college grads can get make a decent living, but college grads make a lot more money (duh) by getting a better, higher paying job. Even so, money doesn't buy happiness. Religion/non-religious and being married/single are more determining factors of happiness.

Nothing wrong with extremes, contrast makes life interesting. Have fun driving your 1984 Buick Skylark, while making love to a women of moderate attraction, with kids who accomplish nothing, and kids who do not experience all that life can offer because you were lazy in college, don't worry I'll hire them to drive my kids around.

its ok, at least you won't need arguing skills if you become a doctor. Your arguments, especially this one are completely laughable. I would love to show this to my english professor, he would have a good chuckle. Not only do you use extremes, but you are so thick headed, I can't argue with you. You're so tuned into the fact that you must be rich to be happy. You think just because I'm going to go through college and get a decent job, that I'll be a failure, drive a crap car, etc. Get a hold of yourself, especially the part about women and kids. Seriously, if you need money to attract a higher than "moderately attractive" woman, I feel sorry for you.

BTW it has been proven in a scientific study that women value a big pay check more than looks or personality, I'm not saying I lack good looks or personality I just stating what the study found.

This makes sense from an evolutionary perspective as the male had to go out hunting to find food, the best hunter would make the best life partner, and the same is true today.

My university english teach had bloodshot eyes, wasn't married, and was a real b*tch. English teachers should not be role models, for a happy life. perhaps you should take a philosophy class.

Dude, my dad went to state university that wasn't prestigious. He slacked off for most of his time there, though he says he made dean's list his last year. He didn't go to grad school, just stuck with his bachelor's. According to your logic he should be working a dead-end, mediocore job. However, as it currently stands he's raking in over $600k as the CFO of the American branch of a multinational. You see, as it turns out, its what you do in life, not what college you go to or what grades you get (as long as those grades are enough to get you to where you need to go) that determine how well you do. See, my dad may not have been a great student, but he's an amazing accountant and really good at leading departments (he's turned more than one failing department into a gold mine during his career). Likewise you can graduate from Harvard business school with a 4.0 GPA, but be mediocore when it comes to job performance, and thus end up working a mediocore job. The reason graduates of Ivy League and other top notch universities and colleges do so well in life isn't because of where they graduated, its because they have high aptitude and work ethic (which is why they were able to get into those schools in the first place). Look at Bill Gates: the guy never even graduated college and he was, up until recently, the richest man in the world.
