I enjoyed the review, but no mention of performance issues or bugs or the lack of? i knew id enjoy this games story and gameplay, my main concern is technical hiccups especially since this game got delayed.
"Is it worth my time to journey into the unknown for hours....?"
This is my main concern with NMS. Will i sink 100+ hours into it and stop frequently to question if what im doing is a waste of time without any sense of accomplishment, and yes time spent in a virtual world in a game can feel rewarding, but the game has to help the player feel that sense of accomplishment. will i care about lvl x ship/weapon upgrade or 1 planet vs another? if its all a drop in what should be considered and endless bucket (most players would never hope or try to discover everything), then NMS may seem empty for an open world unable to drive certain players to continue forward. Im gonna try to remain optimistic and take a wait and see approach and look forward to the review.
ive only been in the beta for a few days, but im loving it. the simplest way to describe it is a middle ground between hearthstone and magic in terms of depth and accessibility.
Really enjoyed this game back when first released, but I lost all my interest after all the dev/community drama and the lack of a single game update for 6 months to a year. When the big patch finally hit (1.0 i think), i quit after about 30 minutes of play, they changed too much all at once. they killed the food/healing sys, removed pickaxes (and drills?) and opted to focus on the antimatter gun (cant remember if this is the name anymore) to break blocks. This taught me a valuable lesson concerning early access games, to be weary of games that potentially have a long dev cycle ahead of them, things can radically change down the road.
I disagree with the score but it doesnt matter. im really enjoying the game and ive only put in about 10 hrs in 3 sittings. I agree that the mid game is where stellaris falters. the early game is filled with discovery and surprisingly for an grand rts, making your own "story" of sorts through quests and special interactions, but all that gets halted around the mid game when borders meet and there isn't much or anything left to explore in your own territory. This means getting treaties to allow civ/military ship access in foreign space. Thankfully the roadmap the devs posted today says they are addressing this by having open borders by default, although this wont be in the next patch late may, but the following patch in june. Im excited for the post launch support plans and seeing this game reach its full potential.
