@swillermann: The digital and physical versions have been identical since last generation. Nothing is running off a disc. It's all 100% installed and running off the HDD/SSD. You install the game and download the enormous patch just like everyone else. The only difference is you have to keep your disc in the drive to verify you own it.

@hardwenzen: You're so close. Maybe you can get there. You seem to see that the costumes are meaningless, but you still can't help yourself from determining the entire worth of the game by looking at how much meaningless costumes cost.

All big multiplayer games are run this way these days. Apex, COD, Halo, DBD, and on and on all have $20 skins. Who cares? Focus on playing the games with your friends and you'll have a blast with all of those games. You never have to spend a dime on any of the cosmetics. You're the one missing out.

@hardwenzen: There's progression in Overwatch. You move up in rank the better you get. How is that not progression? You unlock nothing in most games. I've put in a lot of time into F1 Manager recently. Haven't unlocked a thing, and I'm still having a great time.

You sound like you might have a problem if you're not playing games to have a good time. Does unlocking free skins really trump everything else for you? That's the only way you feel like you've made progress in a game? I can see why you're so grumpy. Cheer up, bud. If you have some friends, try some Overwatch. It's free and the skins are completely meaningless. It's a first-person game. You only see the skin for a few seconds when you pick your hero. You can get the same effect by just looking at the skin in the menu.

@hardwenzen: Um, what? Do you only play games to earn skins?

It's real easy to not buy $20 skins and just play the game, which is a lot of fun and free now. All the progression from playing the game is part of the free part.

@naryanrobinson: The Witcher 2 got big because they rounded off the edges and brought it to consoles. The first Witcher was an ambitious but clunky PC exclusive at a time when PC gaming was still kind of a niche market. The second game was also a fairly niche game until it exploded when it was released on console a year after the PC version. The main draw for all three of the games has always been the story and the world they created. If you're not in it for the world and story, there's not much there for you.

@thenotepadshow: I've yet to meet someone who played the Witcher for its combat system or even thought it was better than passable. Maybe you're the first? They made billions on the story.

Hopefully, they don't sand down too many of the rough edges. There were so many cool systems in the original Witcher that they abandoned, but they really just needed another pass. Actually having to plan before your battles was a good idea and the rhythmic-based combat was so much better than the awful nothing combat they settled on for Witcher 3.
