Okay now I have a question: I connect my ps3 to an optical receiver (a mid range pioneer 7.1, no hdmi), and when I switch a blu-ray movie's sound to to uncompressed pcm from dobly digital the sound gets louder and possably better... But my receiver doesn't recognize the format of sound (like when its a dobly digital it says DD or when its dts it says dts) So whats going on here is it truly uncompressed audio or is my receiver just playing the ps3's output signal but not really pcm???

I think your ps3 was protecting you from those horrible movies.

[QUOTE="NavigatorsGhost"]I've got my ps3 hooked up to a regular sd tv through a regular a/v cable. Can I watch Talledega Nights - Blue Ray using this setup or do I need an HDtv or at least component a/v cable?toyoarmy

If Talledega Nights is Copy-Protected, No you can't.

(Copy-protected Blu-ray video discs can only ouput at 1080p using an HDMI cable connnected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP standard.)

Actually you can watch it just in 480p not 1080p.

so do you think the ps3 will still look super good and amazing n the one i said first or not.slayer423
It should look great , I was just stating the facts about that TV. It will look good, Its an 1080i HDTV and even if you get one with some geomatry issue you probably wouldn't notice anyway unless u were real anal about it. Samsung makes good Tvs and go for it if thats all u can get.

That TV is 2 series old and I heard it had some geomatry issues. The same goes for the 3080 line as well, but the new one the 3082 line great for the price if you want a good quick fix of HD glory.

I've been saying this for a long time, but here is a pretty good article on why 1080p is not worth the price increase over 1080i TVs, especially at screen sizes smaller than 50 inches.

http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6449_7-6661274-1.html?tag=cnetfd.mt

As the article points out, the more important factors to consider are contrast ratio and color reproduction.  Don't buy into Sony's (as well as Sharp's and Samsung's) crap about 1080p being "Full" or "True" HD.  720p and 1080i is HD also.

Thats a real good article, very informative.

[QUOTE="beefalo"]at 42" you'd be better of buying a plasma...better image quality and probably cheaper although it would be a 720p resolution screen. that lcd you linked is strange...it claims 1920x1080 resolution which is 1080p yet it states it only supports only 1080i not sure why that is...

1920x1080 resolution is both 1080p & 1080i, just one is progessive & one is interlaced.
