Aside from Loki, Red Skull, and Ego, Marvel has never been able to create a decent baddie. You'd think since we already know all these heroes they'd spend more time fleshing out the opposite.
I feel the green chemical truck is a big reference to the Joker. I've seen several comics where it sprays his joker gas using those trucks and cmon with the green glow. Me and my partner both at the same time said "If the joker shows up we're done"
@twisted_outlaw: No, there is no issue at all with it being split into 2 parts. In the book and in the mini series Mike stays behind to ensure that if Pennywise comes back he can bring the losers club back together to defeat it once again. Everyone leaves but him because like said, he's the historian of the group. This wasn't even backstory left out, it was given to another character without reason.
@Herrick: The only aspects of Bens character that wasn't visited was him being a naturally gifted architect, but that could have been easily explained in one or two lines of dialog. Have them make reference to the dam they built by having it in the background "I cannot believe that dam is still standing Ben, you sure you never read how to do that?" "No Bill, just sorta made sense to me" two lines of dialog and you've entirely explained then Ben is a gifted architect and Mike can keep his character.
@Herrick: He is Mike Hanlons character entirely, the writers morphed Ben and Mike together. He collects clippings of Derrys past and puts the pieces together. I cannot imagine Mike having a bigger part in the 2nd film, because he had no character in this movie. That is honestly my only gripe with the new film, everything else is so superbly well produced.
One thing I don't understand is why they completely did away with Mike Hanlons character. In the book and even in the TV mini series he was the historian. He was the one that introduced the kids to the fact that Pennywise lived under the town and came out every 27 years. I don't understand why they gave that duty to Ben Hanscom... he had his role in the film as the new fat kid in school, his budding love for Beverly Marsh. Mike had literally no role other then "home schooler". It's sad that the only POC in the book was turned into barely a side character in this film.
Aside from that I thought it was fantastic, miles better then the original mini series. Because aside from Tim Currys role as Pennywise that series wasn't very good, cheaply made even for the time, the acting was all over the place.
@marshallgiles: I have a friend with Schizophrenia and he said it's a pretty realistic portrayal of what he has experienced when off her medication. He said it can be challenging to get through.
