Making a game can be dirt cheap, but if the artist is as boring as watching paint dry then the cost doesn't matter.

Hideo Kojima was limited to hardware problems when he was asked to make the first MG game for the MX but he still made it. The same thing happened with MGS with the playstation, but he still put out a great game. There is no excuse for lazy artists.

@redroach Even with cheaper cost, that doesn't mean that they will make a different game. To me there is no excuse for IW, Treyarch, and EA to out the same crap every year. They have the time and the resources to put out a better game and they choose not too. I'm pretty sure that when the next gen does come nothing will change. A few more textures, and lighting effects will be added but it won't take away from the fact that I have been playing the same game for more then a decade. I bought I am Alive, and that game was awesome. It didn't look the best but it was an awesome game for me. I can see where budget can hinder some creative ideas, but not so much to where we get nothing new.

@chikahiro94 You're right, that is the problem. Not the hardware. That demo is awesome, and that was just a demo that isn't even going anywhere.

@redroach I don't believe that for a second. I do understand making a game isn't cheap, but to me making a game that doesn't involve shooting is not that hard to come up with. Journey, Mr. and Mrs. Explosion. Developers aren't getting creative, they just want some of that pie so they make something like COD.

I agree with him. Budget can become a problem but that is still no excuse for the lack of creativity in the kind of games that come out.

@chikahiro94 That's hardly the problem nowadays. The main problem are developers don't want to spend the time to actually max out what they can really do. The really good games that come out today are the games that have been in development for more then 2 years, if not more then 3 years. Look at how long it took MGS4 to come out? Same thing goes for the Uncharted series and the Killzone series. Some teams do take the take and produce wonderful games but others don't and they plague the market. When I was a kid I couldn't go to a video game store because I was so excited to get a game. Today, I can go into Gamestop and buy nothing because I am interested in nothing. Nobody is willing to spend the time to actually break loose and try something new or actually make it worth their time. This can be in part of budget, but if they really wanted to make the game, they would do it.

I also feel companies shouldn't feel threatened by Epic. If I was a company head and Epic made these remarks to me I would tell them to either A. how about you make your own console then and pay for the expenses, or B. The door is behind you, can somebody call in Hideo/ Frank O' Connor/ Miyamoto (depending on which company they were talking to) we need to talk about the next game that is going to make us millions. Cliff always puts himself on this high horse and I can't wait for somebody to take him off. Don't get me wrong, I love the Gears of War series, but Cliff you only have one series while there are so many other companies that have done what you have done multiple times.

So will the unreal engine take even longer to load and have even more pop in graphics? I think the engine is cool but it is not the best engine out there and not the best looking engine either.

At first I thought this was going to be interesting. After a good read I find out that this isn't what M$ needs to do. They really only need to do a few things and they will be good for the next generation.
