*sigh* about half of the people on this thread are providing solid points. The other half didn't read it.
for the 1,000th time, he isn't suggesting to change Zelda's core gameplay. He was just using Oblivion as an example of a huge game with hundreds of people to meet and thousands of sidequests. Some people hate games like that, and thats okay, but its odd so many of you insist on pretending hes suggesting something hes simply not... oh well.

You know, nearly any time anyone starts a thread trying to do a positive spin on another game, it usually gets met with lots of uninformed posting that is irrelevant to the topic creator's ideas.
Personally, I think the Zelda games I've played in the past are some of the best fun I've had in gaming to date. There is a reason Zelda games are... well, like Zelda games. Because it's a formula that works. Now, I'm all for innovation and new things, but I really don't think we'll see much in the form of new concepts with future Zelda games. The next installment (which will hopefully come out this console generation - groan if it doesn't!) will most likely continue taking the Wiimote into consideration, adding maybe a few minigames here and there, maybe a new playstyle quirk (boat in WW, Masks and time in MM, etc) that the game will revolve around, but all in all, it'll still be basically the same Zelda we played back in the 80s.
That's not to say it's a bad thing. I just wouldn't look to the Zelda franchise for going a different direction. Of course, Metroid did, and that's successful. But I just doubt it with Zelda.
