Update - Oct 26, 2005

Going by what I've seen so far this week, we could have some good days of bug fixing in the next couple of weeks. Thanks goes out to the staff for getting the points and levels to run today. I know this is a bit late, but thanks to shatterdaymorn for the Trusted User status for The X-Files. Since there are two trusted users, I don't get the benefits of a trusted user (damn bug). I suppose this is why I've not sent in very many things since getting the status, but then again, the other trusted user hasn't submitted anything, judging by his contributor points. The Phantom Editor Queue bug has my queue up to 10 pending submissions now. I hope this gets fixed before the weekend. Still no level updates this weekend. You'd think someone would figure out how to turn the levels on for the weekends. smushmeg seemed to be able to with the contributor points. Not a whole lot to say on the contributor front. I submitted a few things here and there. I'm not going to bother with points updates in this blog. Where oh where have all the staff members gone?

Still no bug fixes... Where oh where have all the staff members gone? I've been pretty busy writing recaps recently. I'm starting to burn out I think. I wish Becker and The Drew Carey Show would get put onto DVD... there's a lot of money there to be had. I retired from Hope & Faith, since I hadn't been editing the show in a while, and there's a good contributor there who has taken over. The phantom editor queue bug, as well as the double trusted user bug are both affecting me now. Last night was the premier of The Colbert Report. It's not The Daily Show, which is great, and it's why I think it will succeed. You can certainly see the influences by Bill O'Reilly, Keith Olbermann, Aaron Brown, etc in the show. Admins, Please Help Out MacDeacon

Could an Administrator please help out MacDeacon with his Favorites problem? He's overloaded his favorites list with hundreds of shows, and it's impossible for him to browse the site. With so many shows in his Favorites, the server seems to stop working properly. I suspect it's because of the "My Shows" list at the top of the page. I tried logging in under his name, with his permission, obviously, and I have to admit, it was nearly impossible to get any page to load. The PMs window seemed to pop up fine, probably because the "My Shows" box doesn't show up there. Access to his account has been tried on even a T1 line, the server simply can't serve up the data. He would like someone to remove all of his Favorites so that he can actually browse the site again, and start his Favorites list over, just in a more controlled manner. I suspect that this would require going directly into the database and removing them there, since logged in under his name, you can't do anything. Again, this isn't merely a manner of a page loading somewhat slow, it's making it impossible to load pages, and I know he could use some help with this frustrating problem.

Please Fix The Phantom Editor Queue Bug

Early on, there was a problem with the Editor Queue which would basically tease us, saying we had submissions in our queue, but we couldn't see them. cooncesean worked on it a while back, and it fixed the problem, well, for everyone who was suffering from the problem at the time, but it seemed to only be a temporary fix. The same problem is still here, and I've had it since gaining editorship of The Colbert Report, Steve Smith, and Tucker Carlson. I've had 4 phantom submissions to deal with, but a few minutes ago, four more popped up, bringing us to 8. Would someone please fix this bug, once and for all?! We were all told by snide that we would be getting the staff back this past Monday, but that doesn't appear to be the case. smushmeg was busy at work, but we don't seem to be hearing much from other software engineers. snide's been pretty much MIA, as has cooncesean, other than posting in one or two blogs. I realize GameSpot gets a lot more traffic and from a business point of view, would be of a higher priority than TV.com, but this has gone on for long enough. At the current rate, the "known bugs list" won't be even looked at by Christmas and finished until next Christmas. The only reason the point bugs seem to have been looked at was because there were about 400 topics from people complaining.

Update - Oct 12, 2005

Quite a frustrating week around here, don't you think. The points update was a mixed bag, gained a guide or two (mainly people), but I lost my Trusted User status for The X-Files since Shatterdaymorn lost his Editor spot because of that damn Retired Editor bug. I also lost my Editor spot for Becker because of the same bug. Not much else to mention I'm afraid... just been watching a lot of Becker and The Drew Carey Show. I've also ordered some DVDs from Amazon.com Current Rank: Wardrobe Malfunction Current Level: 34 (35%) Submission Status: Accepted: 5957 Pending: 10 Denied: 70 Total: 6037

Gaming

Any gamers here? I used to play more games a few years ago when my PC was capable of handling the newest games, but as it's aged, I find myself playing fewer games. I play a sports title on my PlayStation 2 every now and again, but there are very few titles that interest me on the console systems. It seems that hardly anyone has been able to properly port PC games to the consoles. Now there are more next-generation consoles coming out soon. The xbox 360 is one that's getting my attention, especially after seeing this new image from Madden NFL 06. Here's another one of a Quarterback - everything's so clear and shiny. LMAO. It's hard to know what's a pre-rendered image or a real gameplay screenshot with a lot of these games. For the first time in a long time, I may actually buy a new game system as it's launching. This hasn't happened since the Nintendo (original Nintendo) came out. All of the other systems I've purchased several months or longer after they came out, since it was cheaper. Anyone else getting an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, etc? These systems are getting faster and faster, I just wish Microsoft would port their Age of Empires games to the Xbox 360 - it would make perfect sense, they just have to make the controls work, which is obviously easier on a PC since you've got a keyboard, which offers more control than a controller (gamepad).
