Update - Nov 08, 2005

No new shows, or anything like that to mention, although I have to admit it would be nice to see that phantom editor queue problem fixed. As I browsed a few blogs this morning, I noticed several others have run into the problem. I've still got 10 submissions stuck in there. Anyone see the new Season Five DVD Set of MacGyver Artwork yet? It doesn't look right. The colors used on MacGyver's head seem off to me. His lips look too dark, almost as though he's wearing a dark lipstick. The Season One Artwork looked just fine, for instance. Anyone else like that Golden Boy emblem for Level 44? That white shirt seems to stand out nicely against the yellow background. Some of the emblems are better than others I guess. With Alan leaving the site, I had enough points to become Editor of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Thanks to RoxieVelma for making me a Trusted User for Frontline. Current Rank: Golden Boy Current Level: 44 (28%) Submission Status: Accepted: 7831 Pending: 98 Denied: 73 Total: 8002

So Long, Alan

I have to admit it was a bit sad to see alanbrewster say he was leaving the site this weekend, however, I expected he would eventually. For those of you who never heard of him, he worked on virtually all of the late-night shows (Leno, Letterman, Carson, etc). That's a lot of episodes/guests to add to the site. When I saw that he was able to convert his name on TV.com, from TVTome, I was disappointed at the level he was "given". I don't recall the exact level, but for over 20,000 points, it just wasn't right. It proved that while you *may* get credit for your submissions, with points, you pretty much got hosed in the levels department. If all of that work were done at TV.com, and not TVTome, he would have been at Level 50. In fact, if things were done properly, he probably should have started at Level 50.

Smushmeg to the Rescue

Of all the staff members, I've been most impressed by smushmeg lately, who not only worked on fixing the contributor points problems, but as of late, has promised to manually update the points and levels until the administrators are able to get the network working properly, which is why they're not able to get the points and levels to run automatically every day. Thanks for everything that you do, Smushmeg; I know a lot of people appreciate your hard work.

Update - Nov 03, 2005

I just happened to update on the one day I don't have anything to rant about. :P Current Rank: K.I.T.T. Current Level: 43 (22%) Submission Status: Accepted: 7642 Pending: 4 Denied: 72 Total: 7718

What the **** is going on around here?! (take 2)

This post from last week is still a valid complaint. The points seem to be updating, but it's not clear if it's on an actual schedule or if it is reliant on someone to actually push a button. smushmeg seemed to get this worked out last time, but maybe someone disabled it. If you need someone to push a button, I'll volunteer for the job, as well as volunteer for submissions processing. No need for me to live in San Francisco or to be paid, I'll volunteer. Could someone at CNET HQ figure out the scheduling for the points and levels? Neither have been running properly for quite a while. They've become more of a joke around here than a feature we can count on working. My suggestion: Have the contributor points run and update at 4am PST every day of the week, and have the levels run and update at 5am PST every day of the week. Oh, by the way, the week is seven days long, not five. If you cannot get the points and levels to run properly, please turn off the ability for people to contribute something until you get the problems with the system worked out.

Pulling Submissions

Today, I made another mistake in a submission, which if accepted could cause a problem or two. I hate making mistakes, and the one today was mainly because of a bug in the system. This whole thing makes me want the ability to pull a submission even more.

Halloween

Happy Halloween, guys! After all of those problems with the personal data database, I think today's blog title should have been the same one I used last time. It seems rather appropriate. Hopefully, things will get back up to speed today, and we'll get our points/levels updates. Perhaps they could also speed up the Updates pages. They're rather slow to load, especially the Friends' Blogs tab, good grief.

World Series!

Congratulations to the White Sox. It's been a long, long time since the Sox won a series, not since 1917. I'm very happy about this, since I'm a Sox fan afterall.
