For a game that is largely played by adults, they don't respect adult's time. Not everybody wants 40 hours of gameplay of which 28 hours are running around getting collectibles.
There was a moment in game design where the optional collectible content changed from something obscure you could go for if you were a completionist to being 'front and center' due to 'sandbox' becoming a popular buzz word. Ubisoft basically forced this trend on the market and somehow the market just gobbled it up despite me never liking it.
For anybody who wants quality over quantity, Ubisoft is the antithesis of what you want with EVERY game they make. Its a shame because exploring historic game worlds that a 2000 man team spent tens of millions of dollars creating down to the type of brick in every building would be an amazing 12 hour campaign experience if they just went back to grass roots. And I've also bucked the trend and always loved to see their pseudo-mysticism-futurism overarching plot. But I cant be bothered crawling through their game world just to see about 30 minutes of plot resolution from game to game.
@Mhaedros: You forgot the part where they add a vertical slice 2 years before the game is released that shows graphics about 10x better than the actual game will contain. Another popular Ubisoft feature.
Dont forgot to PREORDER guys.... Sigh.
I started getting hope that perhaps the industry was changing after I learned Dues Ex shut down their backwards pre-order system after a massive backlash....then I saw data that shows gamers are "more anticipated" for COD #10 than Fallout 4 for November... This is a game that goes in yearly cycles and gets the tiniest of tweaks... versus a game that was like 6-8 years in the making where they have meticulously done details right down to individually creating thousands of dials for machines.
@thrombosis45 On a cursory glance (called ignorance by some), you could make this assertion.
However, 1) Zorine seemed to have played the game previously and stated experience/opinions, 2) Game journalists frequently inject opinions into gaming content like reviews because no human being is able to be completely objective 3) Game journalists are allowed to have opinions, its called editorial.
While this didnt cover potential negative components of the game, of which there are undoubtedly many, releasing an editorial on some improvements in a series iteration is hardly what i would call 'whoring', you are being unreasonable. Its a opinion based editorial that actually have a few objective points IMO, and I think if somebody had played wow in the past (which i havnt), they might be interested in this.
Go open IGN and tell me how many "10 things you will like about this game" there are and come back and talk to me.
@Kjranu I've always liked the exaggerated sway on the hips when they walk. Its got an interesting art direction that is not going for hyper-realism.
Although I like hyper-realism most of the time because it pushes the envelope for high-end graphics, I'm happy with some games going for a stylized approach like DA.
@VegasDawg @nomadski69 Project Morpheus will be on PS4 within 1-2 years. They wouldnt be buying $40,000 marketing slots on Conan in the US if they didnt have a 2 year plan.
Its not realistic to think we will get high fidelity gaming experiences on console any time soon because it requires around 150% of the processing power just to make the same game. So we will get VR on PS soon, but at a sacrifice.
PS5 will be the first high fidelity VR experience.
@namitokiwa @jeremy- I have a suggestion for Gamespot. Instead of constantly spamming me with competitions that arn't for my region, perhaps you could try emailing people when AAA exclusive live-streams are happening in the next 24 hours.
I like Gamespot, notably Kevin's reviews most of the time (except Destiny), but PRIORITIES man!! I need dat DAI content.
Re-release a game I was playing 15 years ago on the original Xbox (10th version of dynasty warriors game, exact same gameplay, but with a NEW SKIN... 8/10).
Best console game of the latest generation, new IP, stunning graphics and sound quality, solid core gameplay mechanics, continued online support and free updates. 6/10.
