I was worrying about this too. Does this mean if i buy a hdtv with 1080p but the game only accepts 720p, does this mean i am going to have big black boarders where the screen is cut off just because it cant fill the whole screen up.

[QUOTE="Vasichko"]I got an idea, flex a disc in your hand and tell me if the inside is stronger... The outside sure does bend alot, but the inside doesnt want to flex. I think this would mean it is more structurally sound. I dont know what to tell you man, I have had an instance where the inside cracked out of nowhere. I did not touch the disc, and pressed the button on the dvd case that is supposed to pop the DVD out and it cracked. It has only happened to me once and I own almost 300 DVDs and about 25 360 games. Sometimes it happens just out of nowhere...

Like i said, once the disc has had a slight knock or what ever in the middle the whole disc becomes weakened and i'm not saying the inside isnt the strongest because it prbably is however if the other wider part of the disc is more flexible then that could be consdered an advantage being flexible rather than hard and stronger. Think i just nailed it right there !. I'm now gonna be a bit contradictive, Both parts of the disc have their own strenghts and weaknesses favouring the larger flexible area of the outside of the disc being able to withstand more appliance of pressure where as the inside is strong but not as flexible due to its small surface area and the fact that it has a hole in the middle (a weakness) This is where the problem lies, once from the whole is broken the whole discs strenghtness is weakened with the large area of the disc not having any use with its flexability and there for could easily put a crack right through (like it happened with me). So it seems all areas of the disc and against and with each other and especially with the inner part being damaged (the bit you suggest being the strongest) makes the rest of the disc weakened.

Well i would have also thought that would be the strongest point in the middle but otherwise has led me to believe different. It must be the edges scraping along the bit in the middle of the case. It only has to put a little mark on it then over time it gets bigger thus weakening the strength. Its funny, i've never had this trouble in all my gaming years until now oddly enough. It must be something to do with the material used. I have stated eleswhere that Blu Ray is meant to be thicker (1mm) i might be wrong but i hope i'm not as they are dual layer with the lazer reading from one side. The disc snapping happened to me on metal gear solid 3 subsistence because of the hard case and disc as it was new, happened on my second day of playing. The bit in the middle was high up because that game holds more than 1 disc so which ever way you do it, the disc has to bend a little, that game just snapped all the way through from the inside to the outside or opposite/ But the 360 disc i had cracked is from the center outwards but i was unsure whether the disc conatins the contents on that small inner circle. Also i noticed i rim around the edge where i belive no disc information is on here because the disc got scuffed when someone turned the 360 on its side after it was playing flat but the disc still worked so i reckon i'm right. But the cracks in the center might not make the other disc work because it might have raised one side of the disc up slightly catching inside the machine.

WRONG. That part of the disk is the weakest becasue it has a hole in the middle-also thats where the most presure is applied in taking the disc out from the case etc of which some cases dont have the push in button release forcing more pressure on the disc.

I have a crack in some of my discs, tight on the edge where you put your thinger in the hole, there is a small inner part of the disc that to me doesnt look like it hold the information on that part of the disc and thats where i have the cracks but the 360 doesnt always read the disc. Is it me or are the discs getting cheaper and thinner.

How thick are the Blu Ray discs ? 1mm?, because the ps1 discs were always thicker than ps2's i thought and the 360's are pretty thin. I have snapped 360 and ps2 discs trying to get them out of their cases. I hope Blu Ray will be much stronger.

whats all this down scalling about. I mean if you have a tv thats 1080i only and the game being 720p it down scales it to 480p so whats the major difference.
