I customized a HP desktop to have a 3.0GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 3 gigs of 800Mhz ram, and Vista 64bit edition. It also came with the 19inch lcd monitor 2.1 speaker system and keyboard mouse for about $850. Right now thats all i can afford.

So i was wondering would it be too complicated to add a nVidia GPU down the road (9600GT or 8800GT) since the computer is factory made? it comes with a 8400 (not so good lol) but it has the option to add a 8800GT but it costs $240. It would be cheaper to buy my own and i could make sure its a good card (preferably EVGA). Should get the lesser PC now and upgrade later? or wait and pay more from HP when i get the money?

alrighty i was going to buy a gaming laptop with vista installed, 2 gigs of ram, a core 2 duo 1.66GHz CPU, and built in 8600GT GPU. but i think i might be better off going with a desktop rig. Can any one help me out on this? i would need everthing needed to build (OS, Speakers, Mouse and Keyboard, and Monitor included) to be $900 or less.

[QUOTE="jon9o4"]

im sorry if i didnt make it clear. My main purpose for the laptop is not to game. I rarely have the time for it. I do like to play once in a while when i do get some free time. Im not too worried about playing the newest and best looking games, i just want to be able to play some decent rts's like C&C3 or LOTR:BFME, i need it to run Spore with at least medium settings with a good frame rate, and maybe a fps like halo 2 or BF2142. Do you think it will be able to?

and i would also like to know if anyone knows where i can get any MXM GPUs

superkoolstud

There are External Graphics cards for Laptops that fit into an express slot but are not out yet.

i found a site where i can get these MXM cards, but can anyone answer my question about the knid of games i can play and the settings they could be played on?

i know most laptops dont have a PCi Express slot so they cant be upgraded but this one must since it has a 8600gt already, or so i think. maybe the size has a role in upgrading options?

The laptop i am looking at buying has a 8600GT gpu, i was wondering if i could later upgrade the GPU to a better one down the road, like maybe a 8800M. Does anyone know if this is possible? or are laptops built to house only the gpu they originally come with?
