The last year and a half (incase you haven't read any other blog of mine) was spent spending money to accumulate a very prestigious collection. I can't stop bragging about it, but it really left me with 2 many choices of what to play.
The problem has many factors.
1. I didn't find the addiction factor in the first 5 minutes. So after an hour of playing i switch to another game.
2. I love sports games way 2 much! i remember spending 36months straight playing mvp baseball 2004/ and fightnight 2004. I just could not put those 2 down. Its the same reason why i haven't even played madden 05 that much. I barely am on the 5th season of franchise mode but i lost the touch. I couldn't read defenses like i used to when i picked it up again like 2 months ago...so its still gathering dust. I'm surprised that i managed to stay away from Mvp Baseball 2005...first 3 days i got it, i spent soo much time playing the minigames til 4 in the mornin.
3. When i get stuck or frustrated, it takes awhile for me to return. Perfect example is Fable. I got to the final objective of the level and barely missed the objective cuz i couldn't do something (i forgot what it was) even though i killed off all the enemies with 1 minute to spare. So i put it down and haven't played it for about 3 months...and i've had that game since thanksgiving last year. I did the same thing with God of War...got stuck, stopped playing for a month (Awesome game btw!).
4. Put it down for soo long that i forgot how to play it. Perfect example is x-men legends. haven't played it for about 5 months...thought the game was fun but since i got into sports games i forgot how to play. Action/rpgs is hard to re-learn, cuz you forget some of the things you used to do, or the perfect combo of guys.
5. I bought games where the arcade version is better than the storyline/simulation mode. take for instance gran turismo...its possible for you to get your fix in arcade mode with time trials or free run than you would the simulation mode. i was practicing drifting for soo long that i can't even grip drive nemore...damn you gtplanet.net. Also another thing is rts- quick skirmishes prevented me from even starting on AoE 2.
6. Love fighting games...spend too many hours trying to perfect each character. 2 bad my sister/ homies got discouraged playing me...its really the only way a person can get better.
7. TIME....this is the biggest factor. Workout at 5-7 in the mornin,I go to school at night, work during the day, church on those other nights where i don't go to school. Weekends is the only time i can do all the other things...which i have to divide. I have to find time to sleep, do housekeeping (laundry-clean up...which i didn't get around to cuz i got stuck on a game this weekend) chill with the homies, spend time with fam bam and have time for myself....which i usually do vegging out. Sometimes games can be counter-productive since you just don't want to think...don't want to be engaged...just relax...maybe watch a movie. When i get into games, i do marathons...so theres a problem.
I think its my homie who finally motivated me to dedicate myself 2 FINISHING GAMES. He came over and saw my collection stacked on the floor (i don't have any room to put it anywhere right now until i get a BIGGER family entertainment center in my room) and was impressed. Then he asked me how many of them i finished...it struck a chord. i've only managed to finish about 2 games this year (Both bioware games kotor 2 and Jade Empire which i blitzed through 3 days each)...from then on things changed. I took my 100+ games and moved it to my sisters room. I kept 5 console games which i am determined to finish. (i still have my pc/ps1 games in my room which i have a plan for)
When you accumulate this many games in a short amount of time, you are bound to have some that you finish, and some that you open to check out the beginning sequences.I have 2 memory cards chock full of save files of barely touched games. Either i buy more memory cards or i actually start playing em so i can erase it once i finish.
To date i finally beat God of War (starting from the trials of poseidon and beat it in 6 hours-spending a total of 9 hours on the game in normal mode) I'm working on Gta:sa right now. In 2 days of playing i managed to finish all the San Fierro misions (except for the Zero missions...totally frustrating!!!) get 100% on helena, Denise, and Michelle, max out on my bike skills, and about 90% max on my driving skills. (i'm not trying to finish the game @ 100%, just want to do as much as i can). Hopefully i'll be done with it in a week so i can move on and finally finish fable and halo (just to say i beat it in Legendary, although it doesn't hold my attention for more than 30 min). After that, who knows maybe i'll start on some action games...i can't hold an rpg/rts right now it would be too time consuming for my addicting nature.
I always told myself id finish these games...and i will...i know that there are many games i will still buy, and i won't stop buying em...maybe just not as much as 4-9 games everytime i purchase.
