tekken woes

okay i decided to dedicate most of my video gaming time on tekken 5.0. I have gotten a little better but i am still way 2 far away to even hang with those arcade heads.I really need competition to grow. I destroy my sister in tekken and i think shes not motivated enough to get better at it(2 bad cuz she is pretty good ). The friends that i have that are better than me or at my level i don't see much . I observe how the arcade heads play but i can't get better if i don't play them...i'm offically broke and been that way for about 3 1/2 months...plus dr plays way differently from 5.0...something i can't work around since i'm broke.

I don't know why i'm sooo motivated still but i guess its just part of my drive. at least i got a lot better when it comes to movements and taking advantage of juggles...now if i can only learn how to be a bit more patient and tech roll, it would be perfect. Oh and if i can actually read the frame data's....i could avoid some of the riskier moves...

sick of system wars

I need a break from all the ignorance. How many times do i go to a sw thread to basically put a person in his/her place over something that isn't even debatable. i'm sick of it. 2 many noobs, not enough good posts.

love the unions but...

I just seem to fade out. Its just like a fad to me. I really enjoyed all the unions i belong to. My personal favs are community contributions, sovgas, and intelligent debate. As great as these unions are i never seem to stick around to see it flourish. Its really sad, but i guess i'm just not a union kind of guy. HAHAHA maybe its just 2 much dedication. I know for a fact when i was into the union, it consumed all my gs time. I wouldn't look at reviews or anything. Ill stay in the unions and hoepefully i can contribute...but no more joining  new unions for me.

i don't get people on the forums

Ok i understand people would like to get opinions cuz it might be a lot of moeny to invest in a game, but don't people try to even look at what gs recommends before they post a thread? They get paid doing what they do and i believe that out of all the sites they underrate a lot of games so an 8.0 here will be more than likely a great game for the average gamer. I believe they have more credibility (and if you don't like all the scores at least there is one editor who is consistentl) than the average joe who is on this site to try to find more out of video games.

also why don't people be more specific at what kind of genre or if they want something new or something old? It makes those who want to help be more helpfull

edit: I have a great collection and i have to say without gs i would have never came across these games. I would never know what to purchase and i wouldn't have heard of most of the games that i own now. Without gs my collection woouldnt be what it is...they did more than people saying whats good

i miss the glory days of the fighting genre and competition

The golden age of fighting games are long gone. I don't think many people get excited over the genre compared to others. Gone are the weekends where i would beg my parents for some money to play arcades in the mall. Gone are those afternoons that my friends and i would spend trying to stay on the controller longer. Gone are blisters on my thumb. Boy do i miss it.

When i was younger i thought that the fighting genre was overcrowded with 2 many good players. I was easily the worst street fighter 2 player out there. . When it came to other games I either wasn't that bad or the other players weren't that good. I simply had to practice much harder than my other friends to be good at games. I was actually decent at Killer Instinct, when it came to playing my friends at least. Either way when it came to 2d fighters, I didn't have it like the others.

3d fighters was a different story. I simply dropped my jaw when i saw tekken 2 in my local arcade. Tekken was going to be my fighting game. Off course since that moment the fighting genre's simply lost steam. Unless I was in an arcade in an heavily populated asian community, there was no decent competition. I hated beating up on little 10 year olds since i knew what it felt like to waste money just to get mopped up, and people my age were bussy with the shooting games.

My friends couldn't keep up with me. My sister, who really got better trying to hang with me, even gave up after awhile. After i found my niche, no one was there to compete with. The computer just wasn't cutting it anymore. Trying to perfect every character eventually just got boring.

Just recently i decided not to go to my math class so i went across the street to the arcades, which i haven't been to any for like the past year or longer, to pass time before my next class. There i was rejuvinated. Other college students were playing tekken that were actually good. Not only that, they were better than me. I know i felt akward playing with the joystick but i knew these guys were good. I came away with a rejuvinated love for the fighting genre and tekken. Problem is I still have no one to play with. I can't just keep going down to the arcades with school, work and other responsiblities. I guess i'll have to manage for now, but it was nice to finally pick up the controller and play to get better.

What happened to the players. Did Playstation bring death to the arcade experience? Did having tekken at home dilute the fun? Did having console fighters lessen the level of competition? I wish sometimes that when my friends come over, they wouldn't be intimidated playing me cuz i know i still have a lot to learn playing tekken. I miss the adrenaline rush, and i miss the ego i got from being better than most of my friends. Oh well, regardless fighting games still is an elite genre whether or not the players are gone and the good games are rare

One game at a time (Maybe Spoilers...MAYBE)

The last year and a half (incase you haven't read any other blog of mine) was spent spending money to accumulate a very prestigious collection. I can't stop bragging about it, but it really left me with 2 many choices of what to play.

The problem has many factors.

1. I didn't find the addiction factor in the first 5 minutes. So after an hour of playing i switch to another game.

2. I love sports games way 2 much! i remember spending 36months straight playing mvp baseball 2004/ and fightnight 2004. I just could not put those 2 down. Its the same reason why i haven't even played madden 05 that much. I barely am on the 5th season of franchise mode but i lost the touch. I couldn't read defenses like i used to when i picked it up again like 2 months ago...so its still gathering dust. I'm surprised that i managed to stay away from Mvp Baseball 2005...first 3 days i got it, i spent soo much time playing the minigames til 4 in the mornin.

3. When i get stuck or frustrated, it takes awhile for me to return. Perfect example is Fable. I got to the final objective of the level and barely missed the objective cuz i couldn't do something (i forgot what it was) even though i killed off all the enemies with 1 minute to spare. So i put it down and haven't played it for about 3 months...and i've had that game since thanksgiving last year. I did the same thing with God of War...got stuck, stopped playing for a month (Awesome game btw!).

4. Put it down for soo long that i forgot how to play it. Perfect example is x-men legends. haven't played it for about 5 months...thought the game was fun but since i got into sports games i forgot how to play. Action/rpgs is hard to re-learn, cuz you forget some of the things you used to do, or the perfect combo of guys.

5. I bought games where the arcade version is better than the storyline/simulation mode. take for instance gran turismo...its possible for you to get your fix in arcade mode with time trials or free run than you would the simulation mode. i was practicing drifting for soo long that i can't even grip drive nemore...damn you gtplanet.net. Also another thing is rts- quick skirmishes prevented me from even starting on AoE 2.

6. Love fighting games...spend too many hours trying to perfect each character. 2 bad my sister/ homies got discouraged playing me...its really the only way a person can get better.

7. TIME....this is the biggest factor. Workout at 5-7 in the mornin,I go to school at night, work during the day, church on those other nights where i don't go to school. Weekends is the only time i can do all the other things...which i have to divide. I have to find time to sleep, do housekeeping (laundry-clean up...which i didn't get around to cuz i got stuck on a game this weekend) chill with the homies, spend time with fam bam and have time for myself....which i usually do vegging out. Sometimes games can be counter-productive since you just don't want to think...don't want to be engaged...just relax...maybe watch a movie. When i get into games, i do marathons...so theres a problem.

I think its my homie who finally motivated me to dedicate myself 2 FINISHING GAMES. He came over and saw my collection stacked on the floor (i don't have any room to put it anywhere right now until i get a BIGGER family entertainment center in my room) and was impressed. Then he asked me how many of them i finished...it struck a chord. i've only managed to finish about 2 games this year (Both bioware games kotor 2 and Jade Empire which i blitzed through 3 days each)...from then on things changed. I took my 100+ games and moved it to my sisters room. I kept 5 console games which i am determined to finish. (i still have my pc/ps1 games in my room which i have a plan for)

When you accumulate this many games in a short amount of time, you are bound to have some that you finish, and some that you open to check out the beginning sequences.I have 2 memory cards chock full of save files of barely touched games. Either i buy more memory cards or i actually start playing em so i can erase it once i finish.

To date i finally beat God of War (starting from the trials of poseidon and beat it in 6 hours-spending a total of 9 hours on the game in normal mode) I'm working on Gta:sa right now. In 2 days of playing i managed to finish all the San Fierro misions (except for the Zero missions...totally frustrating!!!) get 100% on helena, Denise, and Michelle, max out on my bike skills, and about 90% max on my driving skills. (i'm not trying to finish the game @ 100%, just want to do as much as i can). Hopefully i'll be done with it in a week so i can move on and finally finish fable and halo (just to say i beat it in Legendary, although it doesn't hold my attention for more than 30 min). After that, who knows maybe i'll start on some action games...i can't hold an rpg/rts right now it would be too time consuming for my addicting nature.

I always told myself id finish these games...and i will...i know that there are many games i will still buy, and i won't stop buying em...maybe just not as much as 4-9 games everytime i purchase.

reviewing games

I love reviewing games. It really gives me a base on how much i really think of a game besides that its fun. Sometimes its enhanced my video game experience.

One thing i do notice is that i tend to over rate the games that i like (comparing my ratings with gs) and tend to underrate the ones i hate. I'm not saying that i follow gs opinion and there is no other, but its just an observation in how i enjoy a game.

It makes me think that a career playing/reviewing video games must be tough. I don't consider myself a casual player, but i know i'm not in the realm of scrutinizing games to the point where i can get very tired of the same formula in my favorite genre like fps or fighting. Kind of makes me wonder how much their reviews have affected their experience.I don't know if its a good thing or a bad thing. I can imagine that having no innovation for a genre makes the genre stale, leading to low review scores, although the formula has been proven fun in the past (ex. quake 4 review by jeff gerstman on the multiplayer aspect). I can also imagine why they rate some games higher when an innovation comes along and takes them away from the monotany.

I think that most people don't review seriouslly enough...esp when that rating badge went up. I really think that it can enhance your taste in games and appreciate those well done aspects in video games.
