@hardski7676: You know I already gave you a professional article by a professional PC analyst who says that to get all you want out of Rift you need a 2000 and above PC, right.

You are not arguing with me, even though I happen to be a PC enthusiast, you are arguing with a professional PC critic on a professional PC site. Who do you think I'm gonna listen to, so brat on GS living in the basement or a professional PC critic who makes living writing about PCs? What you think that you are more credible than the article I gave you?

P.S Minimum Spec = MINIMUM performance, learn what minimum means kid.

@Dragon_Nexus: I think at some point even if they are good people will stop watching simply due to the glut of it. It was like the old cowboy films, at some point people stopped watching regardless if they were good or bad.

@hardski7676: "Garden-variety PCs simply aren't up to the job. Oculus requires a machine built in the last 12 months, or one about to be built. It needs a graphics card that costs $300 or more, which means a computer that costs over $1,000. And this is really only the minimum. There will be games that push boundaries, as developers embrace all the graphical features of newer game engines like Unreal Engine 4 or CryEngine 3. Those will demand even better systems that can cost $2,000 and (way) beyond."

I live on planet Earth, I don't know which planet you live on.

To enjoy RIFT you need a PC that can run all the latest most intensive games at 90fps x 2 (180fps) at the highest possible settings. Most PC's can barely do 90fps x 1 at the highest possible settings.

@hardski7676: I'll choose the cheaper version, thanks. I'm cheap, don't feel like upgrading my PC to do 2Kx2 at 90fps.

You know how much it'll cost to get a system that can run dual 2K video streams at 90fps each, that's like 2 grand, plus the 600 dollar Rift.

I would never spend that much for any game. Most gamers are cheap just like me.

@hardski7676: Markets dictate price, console markets don't like to spend anymore than 400 bucks on anything. So, I expect Sony to price these according to their market demand.

Sony's version will almost certainly be cheaper than the Rift version considering the PS4 is only capable of doing 540p level VR games at 90fps.

@Myron117: These things cost so much money to produce that pricing them in a profitable range is almost impossible for Sony. Its not like the PS4 which is just cheap off the shelf PC parts, this is new tech.

They would need to price the units at around 500-600 to be profitable at launch, and console buyers are notoriously cheap, usually unwilling to spend anymore than 400 bucks.

I expect Sony to take a loss leader on these at launch and only start to make money on hardware 2 years into the manufacturing cycle.

They'll most likely price these within the budget range of console fans, which is 400 bucks.

@MrFreehuggs: Sony unlike Rift is designed to make money off of software Royalty Fees over hardware sales. Unlike open formats like PC, console manufacturer charge exorbitant amount of money on royalty fees on each game sold by third party game publishers.

So, it is in Sony's best interest to sell as many VR units as possible even at a initial loss to raise the hardware attach rate thus maximizing future software royalty revenue.

The more people owning PS4 VR, the more money Sony makes on royalty fees from publishers, Sony doesn't care about making money off of the initial hardware like Rift, who charge little to no royalty fees on software.

Sony might take a loss leader on these by 100 max.

So expect them for around 400 at launch, with Sony losing about 50-100 per unit sold, until manufacturing costs drop.

I expect Sony's version to cost about 100 cheaper than Rift, simply due to console manufacturers wider royalty revenue on software sales and there willingness to take a loss on hardware.

Just outta curiosity, does anyone think the comic book film fad will die out any time soon? It feels like the old cowboy films way way way back in days. They made so many cowboy films that nobody wanted to see them anymore.

@XAGMNINETY: If they can run Linux on the system, its just a matter of time before they can install a custom firmware with all security stripped for the PS4, which would open the doors for a fully hacked PS4.

This is the beginning of the end.
