@fanirama: I hope Cavill never becomes Bond he's got no charisma. The man is boring as a brick, and his acting is just slightly better than the brick when he's playing dead, just by a bit.
@bfa1509: You're right the only good Craig Bond was Casino Royale, the films take a nose dive after Mendes took over as director, the man can't do action to save his life.
Coincidentally Casino Royale and Goldeneye were both directed by Martin Campbell probably the best Bond director of all time.
I hope they bring Campbell back to finish the last too Craig Bonds.
A good director to do Bond is one who doesn't take Bond too seriously, and understands all the Bond tropes.
@dnsfw_jamus: Never, neither was Gerard Butler. LOL
Barbara Brocoli. likes the English gentlemen look, and she also likes relatively unknown actors taking over.
Tom Hiddleston ruined his chances when he started acting like a big star. If history is any consequence you need to stay under the radar and be as unknown as possible to get the Bond role, and you need to be a serious actor nowadays.
When they announce the next Bond people are gonna be like who the fck is that?
@s2i2p2i2o: I really like it cause its very out of character. You rarely ever see cold blooded heroes like Reacher, who just walks into the room doesn't question the bad guy and just shoots everyone in the head.
@gotrekfabian: Lets pray, cause the other candidates for Bond are horrible. They're now talking about the dude from the new Ben Hur film as Bond.
I cringe at every single Bond candidate that pops up. Lets hope Daniel does 2 more flicks.
75m per film is not bad, considering most Bond flicks gross close to 1 billion international. As long as Sony spends less than 125m making them, they still make double the investment.
The way Sony sees it Craig for 2 more Bonds = 500 million in the bank. They don't see it as losing 150m but gaining half a billion.
@faseli: Nobody walks away from 150 m anymore, actors are making pennies nowadays. Studios make like 5 films a year now, the rest is all cheap indies flicks that pay peanuts. This ain't the 80s-90s no more.
Back in the days, you had actors walking away from Pirate of the Carribean franchise
@ahpuck: I think its good that Mendes is stepping away from Bond, he was making the films too serious, too dramatic. Mendes is really at heart an arthouse director, and wasn't really suited for Bond.
Over the years he's systematically taken all the Bond out of Bond, by trying to make sense of the whole franchise and make the characters more realistic.
Gone are the Bond girls who fall for Bond for no reason, the sly wink as Bond takes out his villains, the ridiculous Bond villain headquarters, the global domination plotlines.
Mendes has managed to turn Bond into what amounts to a serious drama, but given the context of the Bond universe, it just doesn't work.
Martin Campbell was probably the best Bond director of all time, having created both Golden Eye and Casino Royale, he understands that Bond by nature cannot be taken seriously.
With that said, I'm so glad that Mendes is no longer directing the Bond films, maybe Bond will go back to being Bond again. And we maybe we'll finally get proper Bond Girl again, and maybe Daniel will finally go back to having fun with his character like he did in Casino Royale.
