@smokerob79: I said 10 years can you read? I said 5 years can barely run it, which means it can run it.
Ain't nobody trying to pick a fight with you PC nuts, I own a gaming PC for crying out loud. So chill. You PC nuts are wacked, always running around picking fights with people. Don't you have anything better to do.
Ain't nobody said anything bad about PC, I said that hardware MUST change every 10 years for both PC and Console, there is no magical super duper fairy unicorn machine that can run everything forever.
Do you have something to say that contradicts what I said? Otherwise STFU.
Honestly do you PC nuts run around all day checking forums to see where you can pick a fight about PCs? You people are crazy. With youtube vids and all that, fucking crazy.
@EcksTheory: AIn't nobody talking about the code, here, this is all about the hardware. MS is saying that they intend to support the same hardware forever, with no more console generations.
Unless MS has a secret Quantum Computer hidden inside the Scorpio, this is not possible.
In 10 years, none of the new games will work on the current gen consoles, that's the reality of things. Because the code always outstrips the gear running the code. Hence hardware always needs to be renewed, that's why console generations exist.
Even Iphones have console generations. Try running any of the new "Metal" games on older Iphones, they don't work. No such thing as forever supported no generation gaming,
@simplytheebest: You point me to a PC that can play every single game until the end of time without needing upgrades and I'll strip naked and dance on a hot bed of coals while singing old McDonald had a farm.
Even a NASA Super Computer will eventually get outdated.
No such thing as a forever supported super machine.
Unless you're talking about a quantum computer, do you own a quantum computer?
@smokerob79: God would you PC enthusiasts please STFU already. You people are so fucking annoying, you give the rest of us PC owners a bad name.
All I said was that NO PC or Console can expect to be supported indefinitely as they all become outdated every 10 years and need to be upgraded, so the notion of a console that will be supported forever is ludicrous. The same applies for PCs.
Then all you people keep showing me Videos of The Witcher 3 running on 6 year old PCs, who gives a ****. Of course you can run Witcher 3 on a 6 year old PC if you bought all the best parts back in the days.
But my point still stands ALL Hardware become outdated, no such thing as a magical forever lasting machine that will play every single game from now until the end of time. That's a fairy tale you tell children.
ALL Hardware become outdated that's a FACT.
STOP sending me videos of Witcher 3 running on 6 year old PCs I don't give a fck.
This is what gives us PC owners a bad name, nerds who keep sending eachother nerd videos of some nerd running Witcher 3 on some older PC. Nobody gives a fck.
@Barighm: Yes complete online rendering, no offline hardware, run everything off the cloud. That will eliminate the concept of generation gaps.
But we are still ages away from ever achieving that. Even then you're performance is still limited to the maximum hardware threshold of the online super computer, which means MS and Sony will need to upgrade their swarms to accommodate better games.
@beantownsean: The primary reason is games have never relied on CPU as much as GPUs due to the fact that prior to DX12 there was little to no emphasis on threading for gaming. And since we've already kind of hit a wall with Moore's Law, CPUs are only increasing in cores rather than pure clock speed.
But expect all of that to change soon as DX12 is designed with threading in mind, thus you will more games using those extra cores in the future.
The emphasis on gaming has already been driven on the GPU, rather than the CPU, this will change.
With all that said, the notion of a console that is supported forever with no generation gaps is completely ludicrous because everything becomes outdated as you said.
@beantownsean: Still needed the new beast GPU. Like to see that system with both CPU and GPU from 7 years ago try that. Which is why console generations will always exist, because your key components will always be outdated every decade.
