The 80 gig is still kickin around it seems at some stores...which is all software emulation

Sorry, but the later models of the 80GB PS3s do not include Backwards Compatabililty.

Chances are, the ones you've seen are newer models.

Ah i was afraid of this, geez what a bummer...i still think the old ps3 looks alot better, and 300 is the right price for me but geez, i guess that means i might have to consider hunting down a used 60gigger...

so i have the Wii and 360, but i LOVE my ps2 games, and i want to get last guardian and a few other ps3 exclusives and i could use a bluray player. i have an old ps2 phat that works great truly but the rumble gave out many years ago oddly enough. so my question is simple i DO care quite a bit about backwards compatability. ive read many OLD threads on the differences between models but i dont know where things stand today with the current firmware and what have you, beyond the basics.

The 80 gig is still kickin around it seems at some stores...which is all software emulation, i doubt at 300 it will be there for long, so i want to make a choice soon. i know the gold standard is the 60gig model, is it worth hunting this down used somewhere or whatever, or buyin it new at an elevated price? or should i just grab a 80gb new at 300?

I don't want the slim, i find it hideously ugly, and cheap looking, granted its lighter and could very well down the line run cooler, but it looks cheapo. but i digress its the BC that concerns me very much. so what would you guys suggest?

i own all three consoles and love them all.but i always had an affinity for nintendo. having said that sony in my mind had the best conference. but i was sad to see the innovators IE: nintendo get aped and copied and then trampled on like they often are. and then to top it off they had one of the most boring, craptacular.stilted and depressing conferences ever. galaxy 2 and metroid (not even done by retro on top of it) thats what u got for me after all this? wow im ashamed for them right now.

Games on demand, 20 titles to start.

This is why On Live doesn't stand a chance. All Sony, MS and Nintendo have to do is copy the service and it is dead in the water.

well i was rather hoping live would come down in price or become free like the other two but i recognise these guys are ahead on the online content front. as the wii is very clumsy and the ps3 is a bit barren as well comparatively speaking

[QUOTE="gamingqueen"]Unless he announces mgs rising in sony's conference, this willremain a 360 exlusive.

It's being made on 360 right now. No news on it being made on ps3.rragnaar

He wouldn't mention the PS3 version of it during the MS conference... besides that, the first images of this game were teased in Famitsu's PS3/PSP magazine, not to mention the press release I linked to earlier has a definite 'exclusives section', and MGS isn't in it.

i could give a hoot about anything to do with metal gear,i never got into that rather overated set of games, but i agree there is no way thats an exclusive unless M$ dumped and showered gold on kojima, games are expensive to produce now and they need to make every dollar they can back. as rragnaar said,it was teased in a sony mag...

On Alan Wake, yeah I was a but taken back that it seemed to control like every 3rd person shooter. I dont know I was expecting something that involved interating with the environment more. Still it was impressive. I love horror games, seemed like they had a good premise going there. The action seemed very simple though, like one of those games with shooting where the shooting doesn't feel right. dvader654
yea i try and keep in mind this may only be one facet of gameplay which looked polished and ok i just would like to see more adventuring and other elements.

[QUOTE="dvader654"]I am surprised at the reaction here. Are we that opposed to anything that hints at a mini game. The hatred for this Natal thing is crazy. Yes some of the applications they showed for it was stupid, but the possibilities for gaming and even just interacting with any type of electronic is endless. Thats was awesome technology. Even the stuff they showed with netflix and movies was impressive. Plus they had a great show in terms of games as well. they wasted no time on sales figures, they just showed game after game. Had some big annoucements. They nailed Splinter Cell exclusivity (damn them), they have that awesome 2D Epic game coming. They showed the first footage of a lot of games. They had great gameplay demonstrations. It was a great show. Shame-usBlackley

I view it as solid, but not mindblowing. Crackdown 2 and the 2D Epic game were much bigger announcements than the Metal Gear Raiden one. I also felt that the opening was just garbage with the Beatles footage -- I'd have liked them to have used the time to show off Lost Planet 2. And I don't think motion controls have any place on the 360 in any way, shape, or form. I feel that direction is dangerous because it shows their resolve is weakening against the Wii onslaught, and I've been of the opinion that Microsoft really didn't need to change much of anything. They've offered a compelling, affordable choice for a conventional gamer, of which there are hundreds of millions. I don't know, I just felt a little sad seeing Microsoft pander to such a garbage demographic, because while everyone is buying Wii's, yhr system isn't setting the world on fire when it comes to software sales.

I did like the Netflix announcement, but they can keep Facebook and TWITter.

exactly thats what certain geniuses on here don;t seem to get and interpret that point as simply us whining or asking to be catered too, which shows real ignroance in what is actualy being said. i agree it is sad,but remember wii's are selling to many people who are not using it for more then a wii sports device, like in nursing homes and hosptials, and similar venues, that makes up a great deal of its sales. nintendo has already taken huge sales drops in japan because people are catching on that there is not much compelling content. and thats sad for me to say given i love nintendo.

i think its justified partially at least. new tech for interaction is fine, but get that to us when you have real content and the tech has improved. all they did was try to take swipes at nintendo. and to be fair nintendo as well is guilty of employing these gimmicks and have released one of the most successful but worst consoles they have ever made. i think the hate comes from the fact that people are used to gamepads, they like them. and they work just fine.

They work just fine to us. Clearly there is a massive audience of people that it doesn't work for as the Wii has shown. Controlers have limitations, its time we start thinking about the future of interacting with our games. The controls dont have to leave, but I think they can incorporate elements like what we saw into the show with a traditional gaming experience.

i agree very much. the tech has to be there along with developers having enough time and money to create the content. quality game releases are getting fewer and fewer because we keep jumping ahead technology wise. developers with good ideas cant take advantage of these new technologies and you end up getting shovel ware and gimmicks ala nintendo and now natal.
