I was able to do 3.6 on stock cooling and stock voltages on my i7 920 C0 and MSI X58 Platinum.

Try using a smaller CPU multiplier with a higher BLCK so that it'll produce less heat. I've seen a lot of people OC the i7 on the Extreme Overclocking Forums and a lot of them show that higher BLCK with lower CPU multiplier can get you higher stable speeds and less temps.

Memory seems overpriced. I bought a 6gb DDR3 1600 for $59 with rebate($100 without)during my rebuild phase.

Mr_BillGates
It's not just about the speed of the RAM, it's also about the latency. No point in having DDR3-1600 RAM if it's at CAS 8 or 9. DDR3-1333 Could easily be pushed to be slightly faster then it.... It's better to get DDR3-1600 that has CAS 7 which is where the price premium comes in at.

Hello fellow GameSpot users

Recently I've been playing a closed beta of a FPS game. Who is it being made by? Some of you PC enthusiasts should know who they are.

FutureMark, the same people who do 3DMark 03-06 and Vantage as well as PCMark. As well as the Peacekeeper web browser benchmark.

What is this game you may ask? Well it's an FPS like I said before, but it has a little something more that other FPS games don't.

ZERO-G SPACE COMBAT

[QUOTE="aura_enchanted"]

it will be 1156 1136 was simply to get i7 out there 56 will be its consolidating point kind of like socket 748 was to 775.

Swiftstrike5

Do you mean 1156 is replacing 1366? That makes more sense then trying to support all 3.

LGA 1156 is mainstream, LGA 1366 is the enthusiast.

LGA 1366 is not going away any time soon.

Bloody hell that thing is long! Its going to need extra support, I dont think the PCI connectors will hold up for long.

clyde46

Thats why they have screw holes so you can screw in your cards at the expansion slots...

Ok, and you're just quoting a bunch of numbers that I could care less about. Fact is, none of you all have 5870s yet. Never a good idea to be the first to have something. I just feel that ATI should be up to 512 bit interfaces by now. I'd like to see it anyway.

grenadexjumpr

A 512-Bit interface COSTS MORE MONEY and will NOT NOT NOT NOT FIT ON THE 40NM R870.

Why do you think Nvidia is having so many problems with their GT300 chips? They went with a 512 Bit interface! Of the 400 plus chips they had made ONLY SEVEN CAME BACK WORKING

Looks decent. Although I'm somewhat partial to AMD for first builds. Honestly, I'd nab a 4870 or 2 of them for now until the 5870 actually proves itself. The whole 256bit interface kinda throws me off.

grenadexjumpr

512-Bit costs MORE money and the R870 isn't BIG enough for a 512-bit interface. With the speed of DDR5 though it doesn't NEED a 512-Bit interface.

The memory bandwidth of the HD 5870 is 153.6 GB/s. Memory bandwidth of the 5850 is 128 GB/s. The memory bandwidth of the HD 4870 X2 115.2 GB/s.
