The PSU is fine.

To the person who said that the GTX 260 requires 36A. Thats the total combined amperage of all components in the PC because as far as I am aware there isn't a video card out ATM that requires 432 watts of power....

According to Nvidia's website for the GTX 260, it requires, at MAXIMUM power draw, 182 watts or 15.16 Amps.

[QUOTE="kilerchese"]1: PC P&C 500w is more then enough to power s single GTX 280 I believe.

2: I would get some different RAM as the kit you picked is meant for i7 systems, not AMD Phenoms. I would suggest this ram. G.Skill DDR3-1333 2x2GB

3: Yes it will work out of the box without a BIOS upgrade.

brandontwb

How can you tell what CPU the RAM is made for? Also do you know how dual channel +12v rails work? I'm really sorry but I need these questions answered as this is my first build and I'm kinda nervous because this is a lot of money for me.

Core i7s use tripple channel RAM, meaning that THREE sticks are required for tripple channel operation. AMD CPUs still use Dual Channel RAM, meaning that only two sticks are required for Dual Channel Operation.

Having only three sticks of RAM in will cause none of the sticks to operate in Dual Channel because if one set of DIMM slots only have one stick then the set of DIMM slots that have two sticks of RAM will only work in single channel mode. Which will halve the performance of the RAM.

I don't know what you mean by the second question.....

If your talking about the PSU, PC P&C make literally the best PSUs in the world as far as I am aware and it is a SINGLE +12v Rail PSU. Meaning that none of the Amps are split up between multiple rails and provide enough power for video cards up to a GTX 280.

That PSU you linked in that post you had deleted, will work just fine as well.

Here is some RAM you should look at instead. The first stuff I posted was for Newegg.com, not CA. Didn't know you were in Canada.

Here is a way hide that CPU power cable a little better, or atleast make it look better.

You can do what I did here in my old case with my CPU power cable. Works really well and looks nice as well.

My misinformation? thats like saying dx10 builds upon dx9 so xp supports dx10. dx11 will be ONLY supported by 7. which is why many places are offering free 7 upgrades when purchasing vista. Because vista will become obsolete. and M$ will be slowly phasing out sales of Vista, much like they did with xp and vista.Nibroc420

Software giant Microsoft today revealed details concerning DirectX 11, the latest edition of its PC gaming graphics API.

Similar to DirectX 10, the software will be available only on Windows Vista and future versions of Microsoft's operating system. DirectX 11 will add new compute shader technology that Microsoft says will allow GPUs to be used "for more than just 3D graphics," allowing developers to utilize video cards as parallel processors.

DirectX 11 will support tessellation, a feature which can potentially assist developers in making models appear smoother when seen up close. Multi-threaded resource handling is also incorporated, making it easier for games to utilizemulti-core processors in a user's machine.

Microsoft also disclosed that DirectX 11 will add features to existing DirectX 10-compatible hardware, though it was not immediately clear what those features may be.

A launch date for the new software was not provided, though Microsoft is expected to release more information in the near future. The bullet points, as provided by Microsoft, are listed below.

  • Full support (including all DX11 hardware features) on Windows Vista as well as future versions of Windows
  • Compatibility with DirectX 10 and 10.1 hardware, as well as support for new DirectX 11 hardware
  • New compute shader technology that lays the groundwork for the GPU to be used for more than just 3D graphics, so that developers can take advantage of the graphics card as a parallel processor
  • Multi-threaded resource handling that will allow games to better take advantage of multi-core machines
  • Support for tessellation, which blurs the line between super high quality pre-rendered scenes and scenes rendered in real-time, allowing game developers to refine models to be smoother and more attractive when seen up close

[QUOTE="washd123"]

1. they should be out by october or at least by the end of this year

2. no you will not need a new mob they will be pci-e 2.0

3. vista will support dx11, but windows 7 is the better operating system.

Nibroc420

Vista wont support DX11, they'll be forcing a switch to 7 on release.

I don't know where you get your misinformation at.....

DX11 builds upon DX10, so....... yeah.....

Vista will support DX11

It's not backlit or anything, but I really love it.

You could look at the Ideazon(Now called the SteelSeries) Merc keyboard.

They have a backlit one, it's called the Merc Stealth.

I really love it for my FPS gaming, the keypad takes a little time to get used to, but it works wonders once you do.

I don't care if it was a flop or not. Is their performance that much worse tan the IIs?DeviousTom

The Phenom IIs are up to 15% or more faster than the Phenom Is.

[QUOTE="Duckman5"]

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the original Phenoms (not the Phenom II's) are not good CPUs. I'd recommend getting this kit. It will utterly destroy that one. (Though I know it is twice as expensive)

DeviousTom

Are Phenoms bad, or just weaker in comparison?

The Phenom Is were flops essentially. They weren't even around, what, 6 months or less.
