[QUOTE="ianuilliam"]The 40gb model, the first without ps2 bc, came with a $100 price-cut. Yeah, yeah, it wasn't $300 yet, but it was still one of those "Hey, we're phasing out BC, and introducing a cheaper model in a few months. If you want BC, grab one while you still can" kind of deals.
400 games versus how many thousand PS1 games? And how many thousand PS2 games, for those who got a full-bc model? 400 games is not a bc list to be proud of. Hell, even the Wii has 700-800 bc titles.
As for the remastered collections being the reason for no more BC... that would make sense, if they did that for every game. Them offering a handfull of popular classics in remastered editions does not have any bearing on whether or not they ever make bc an option again. The fact that ps2 is still on the market? Sure, that could be blamed, but the remastered collections? Personally, I think they're great. I never got GoW 1 or 2 on PS2. I COULD go out and find them still, but a quick google just now shows both (new) still retailing at $20. I picked up the GoW collection the other day, new, for $30. Cheaper, plus up-rezzed, plus smooth 60 fps, plus trophies. Of course, if I already had the ps2 versions, it wouldn't have been as good a deal... but then, if I had the ps2 versions, I could just play them on my PS2, so I wouldn't need to buy the new ones. I seriously don't get why them making updated versions of great games that are hard to find available for new audiences, at cheaper prices than you'd pay if you can even still find the last gen version, is seen as a bad thing around here...

So, if you have a BC compatible PS3 it has better bc, if not Wii and 360 bc >> PS3. I just so happen to have a 60gig launch PS3, but the Bluray drive is busted so it wont play any discs :(. Though, every PS2 game i played on it waaay back when, looked worse on the PS3 than on the PS2 (same TV), so it was still bad BC.
Um, no, ALL PS3s have more BC than the Wii or 360. All PS3s play PS1 games, which is a much larger library (thousands) than the gamecube (700-800) or the partial xbox list (400 or so).And odd, when I played ps1/2 games on my ps3 on my hdtv, they looked better than playing on the ps2
The thing is, that noone cares for playing PS1 games on PS3, since they look same
The important is playing xbox - PS2 3D games in higher resolutions and filtering, making them look better and sadly most PS3 cant do that, while all 360 can run older games looking better, like Fable, Morrowind, Kotor, Jade Empire etc
