thats all? 30 million users? and how many pcs are out there right now? 900 million plus? that's pretty indicative of dedicated pc gaming on a death march I do applaud your effort to make out that its pc's are dieing and not pc gaming. But its as I said pretty indicative of Dedicated PC gaming dieing if there are only 30 million steam users with like 900million+ PC's in the world.

WilliamRLBaker

So you base your facts on one on-line store?

Oh the Brain activity is on fire tonight.....

To much playing the consoles i think ;)

Of your so called 900+ million PCs would you like to provide figures for how many PCs actually belong to corporations and businesses, schools, collages / universities etc.

Then from the remainder can you remove all the PCs which are not capable or designed to playing games, also PCs that are redundant / unused, also remove the PCs where users will never have and have no intention of playing any games weather it be PCs or console.

then lets look at the percentage of who use steam, but then again your fact would be ignoring the real fact there are a huge amount of users who would like a Physical copy and the users who do not like steam and also the users who use other methods to purchase their games.

Overall your methodology is pretty flawed , better buy you another tin foil hat

Having served in HM Armed Forces for many years (UK Army)i ditched my bayonet into my kit bag and went with a K-Bar Knife.

The bayonet can be used as a wire cutter when coupled with the sheath & the sheath has a saw attached but you should consider it a tool first & weapon second.
Bayonet`s are not against the geniva convention but the US Decided to with draw its use from all but two divisions.

Here is an interesting bit of info for you.

"according to the Ministry of Defence.

"Our Service personnel are trained to use a bayonet as part of their mandatory basic training. This is an essential part of close-combat training which prepares them for eventualities they may face in theatre," says a spokesman for the ministry.

The trend in the recent history of warfare has been towards picking the opponent off long before "cold steel" might become necessary, but British troops have been forced to resort to the use of bayonets in the not-too-distant past.

Bayonets were fixed and used in the Falklands and the Army conducted its most recent bayonet charge in Iraq in 2004, when 20 soldiers of the 1st Battalion The Princess of Wales Royal Regiment attacked 100 insurgents in the Battle of Danny Boy, a fierce fight at a British checkpoint of the same name. Last year Lieutenant James Adamson was awarded a Military Cross for taking on two Taleban fighters in Afghanistan with the bayonet attached to his SA80 rifle.

British Forces now carry a greater variety of weapons, such as light support machineguns, heavy machineguns, snipers' rifles and SA80s with underslung grenade launchers that cannot be fitted with a bayonet. However, serving soldiers still assert that a bayonet has a powerful psychological effect on the user and the potential foe, and in certain circumstances the bayonet can save a soldier's life.

"Closing with the enemy is a massively psychological act," says Colonel Stuart Tootal, who commanded a parachute battalion in Helmand province.

"Fixing bayonets bolsters the will to close with and kill an enemy and seeing soldiers with bayonets fixed has a psychological effect.

"I don't criticise the US Army for choosing to focus on other weapons but, personally, while I recognise that the bayonet will be used less often, I wouldn't give it up." "

Halo was excellent of the xbox, just as golden eye on the N64 and virtual cop on the saga Saturn,Deus ex on the pc.

but the end of the day that is all nostalgia and I'm happy for it to stay that way.

Pc has plenty of good games and it will still have plenty to reminisce about later on too.

As for FPS im still playing battlefield 2142 and loving it still.

One thing i always tell people is to check your PSU, the amount of students who bring there PCs to me complaing of jerky graphics and dodgy FPS that are a result of running on a stock (cheap) psu`s are amazing.

If your card is not getting the correct power or the supply rails are not clean then you will get performance issues, just a thought :D

Just priced that up would be around £633 for you to build the same one as in that link, but there is there profit on top as you would expect.

I would seriously recommend if you bought some thing like that to replace the PSU or ask them a price for fitting a branded one.

One component many people over look is the PSU a dirty power supply (cheap/stock) will give you performance issues and slowly degrade your components.

I suggested picking it up as i was not sure if you were buying it from a company but as you are i would not worry to much ;)

Thanks. I have been looking on ebay for custom built desktops as I dont have the time to go through buying parts individually and learning how to fit/setup everything... I am unsure if the prices are reasonable but I will do a bit of research on each part to see how much they retail/sell at.

I set myself a limit of 850 but there are a lot around the 700-900 mark and am unsure which ones are best out of the selection.

wigan_gamer

If you do want to buy one of ebay may i suggest if you can pick it up in person and check it out first,

Also if there any you fancy post up the specs, im sure we can advise you :)

Just to give you some sort of idea,

I just upgraded a PC for my other half,

I got her a AMD Phenom II x6 (6 core she does some vidoe rendering) , motherboard, 4 GIG ddr3, Cool master case, 600W OCZ power supply.

That came to around £420.

On top of that you would need a graphics card (mid range £200), HDD (£60) and a decent monitor 22-23" (about £150).

bring you round £800-900 mark if you add Keyboard, mouse, 3rd party CPU heatsink fan, thermal paste.

www.ebuyer.co.uk, www.scan.co.uk, www.overclock.com, www.overclockers.com tend to have some of the best prices over here :)

personaly i would look at AMD processors on your budget, the main reason being the intel P5 & P7 motherboards knock up the price a fair bit more as do the processors.
