I just returned from my Effective Communication tutorial, disappointed and angry. I obtained a B+ for my previous assignment, and a B for the one preceding it. I was angry because I thought the tutor treated me unfairly. It was all so evident: Whenever we gave feedback in tutorials, the tutor would give me very, very short comments, and others, very lengthy, and usually, positive remarks. I do not mind if she criticizes me, but it is just the brief "Oh, ok" after you convey an idea which not only makes you clueless, but in perpetual successions, gets you annoyed. Compare that to the comments she give to others "Oh, that is great. Can you please repeat it? As you can see, he managed to....", and you can easily notice that a two-word comment is not constructive at all. Until now, I do not know what issue she has with me, or why she does not like me, if that is the case. For my previous assignment, we were required to write a 1000 word thesis. I kept to the word limit, did the best possible out of my capabilities, and still, I only got a B+. One student wrote a 600 word essay, gave very brief elaborations, and guess what, he got an A. Where is the justice? In my essay, I can bet, from the word-slashing and cancellations, she scrutinized every sentence without getting a gist of the essay as a whole. In the others', I could barely see any pencil marks (the assignment was marked in pencil).
At this juncture, I am frustrated. I even seeked help from my Communication Studies lecturer who gladly reviewed my thesis. So, by giving me a B+, without a doubt, she is directly indicating that my Communication Studies lecturer is not competent enough to scratch the A mark. What more can I do now? I have definitely given my sweat and tears into all my assignments, and I am still not getting the A's I believe I deserve.
