Just take the battery out. Oh and never take the UMD out when you are playing a game. I did that a few times when I was a noob with the PSP and it eventually crapped out on me. But yeah, put the battery back in and turn it back on, hopefully it will work.
When mine broke it would turn on (the little power light) but you wouldn't hear any of the regular noises like the UMD drive spinning or whatever. Other than the UMD drive, the PSP is a pretty solid piece. Just make sure nothing stupid goes on with the UMD slot
Buy it new, by itself. Buy a 1 gig memory stick on eBay with some games. Lords of Dogtown isn't a good movie and ATV Offroad Fury looks terrible on the PSP...they are just two worthless UMDs, you could probably get them both for 10 bucks total elsewhere/used. Those games you mentioned can be found on eBay CHEAP. 2GB memory sticks go for about 40 bucks on eBay.
you can buy VGA cables (same connection you use for regular PC monitors or hooking your laptop) that connect to your 360/PS3 (I'm not sure about ps2) for like...10 bucks ebay.
