Argh, "key" first party titles aren't enough. Sure I enjoyed Mario and Zelda on my Wii but I needed plenty of other games too: No More Heroes, Monster Hunter, Xenoblade, Muramasa, Okami (yes I know it was a port, but a great one) all kept me happy while awaiting another "key" Nintendo title. What does the Wii U have so far in good 3rd part support that you can't just get on a previous gen console?
Everyone's right in saying not even Nintendo follow this ethos of creativity and uniqueness but that doesn't change the fact that he's right. This industry just keeps getting more and more clones of successful franchises.
@bobtheflounder Yeah, the last time they actually tried to revolutionize classic turn based formula was over a decade ago with X. After that, each entry has been completely changing the gameplay (though I enjoyed XII), and it would be really nice to see another turn based FF game. Maybe they could throw in some more action oriented bits into the battle in some way, I don't know, but I agree 100%.
Wait, what? Is that supposed to be Final Fantasy? I'm not gonna say there's no way I'm buying (based on so little evidence) or some silly thing like that but that gameplay does not look like an FF game. It could still be good, but it's sad to see the JRPG genre become so much more high-octane action oriented.
Did he just say "really, how many times have people written Nintendo off" Geez, Mr. Sector has been on vacation... I like his enthusiasm and "gaming console for the sake of games" philosophy but he hasn't been able to conjure something outstanding for a while. I'm not gonna hate though, I will forever respect the dude who made Deus Ex.
@monchoago PS1 was probably the last great RPG console (especially when talking FF games), but that doesn't mean innovation should just stop. No one wants to play the same game over and over just with a different story. Chrono Cross took a very different approach than Chrono Trigger and it was a fantastic sequel, you just have to do it right (which Square can't seem to do lately).
