@001011000101101 ha, I actually loved GTA IV's story. The world in GTA IV was full of comedy, but the story stayed fairly serious, apart from maybe Roman and the Brucie. I loved how they made Niko. Quite possibly the most realistically conflicted character I have ever seen in a video game.

@001011000101101 having shitty jokes would be the problem on its own. But the criticism here is that any silly comedy, no matter how hilarious it is, takes away from the serious tone the story tries to make. Which is stupid. They are pretty well separated. It's not like there's a gripping thought-provoking dialogue cutscene that also has farting in it.

@001011000101101 @liquidbutter Go read the GTA 5 review. It gets the same criticism. That the silly humor deters from any attempts the game makes at setting a serious tone. Like the tone is disjointed because the mouse pointer on the GTA 5 internet browser is a middle finger.

I can't help by roll my eyes at the same old "OMG this game can't decide if it wants to be serious or silly!" critique that comes up in GTA reviews as well as Watch Dogs. It's called Dramedy! It is NOT an inconsistent tone. There is nothing wrong with a game that separately has some silly parts as well as serious story elements. Game critics need to stop telling developers that they should pick one or the other. They can do both. They should do both.

@berserker66666 it may not even be a desire to support the developers. Sometimes it's more selfish, like "I love what this game does, and I want to see more games do this. So I am going to increase their sales to send a message to the industry that they should do more of this."

@berserker66666 @liquidbutter It's not a black and white world. Some pirates pay for the games they enjoy.

@Trevorbangbang Ehh... I actually was not very wowed by GTA V's start. I enjoyed GTA IV's start enormously more. That very opening scene with the guy being whipped by a dominatrix on the boat and scream "DADDY'S BACK YOU BITCHES!" was the pitch perfect way to bring GTA back. GTA was back, you bitches, and it was a glorious return.

@berserker66666 Do you honestly think the review embargo made a difference? This game, much like just about every AAA game nowadays, got leaked over the weekend. Pirates have been playing it for days already.

@handofkain much like how GTA V was a mashup of different Rockstar games, Watch Dogs is a mash up of other Ubisoft games. There's some Assassin's Creed mechanics, some Far Cry mechanics, some Splinter Cell mechanics.
